It does seem us Americans like to rage impotently at everything that we don't understand. While some of us are contemplative and trying to wrap our heads around it, there's a whole subset of society right now, a not insignificant subset, that are angry, and looking for somebody or something to punch or shoot.
Stay safe and avoid crowds.

Hug your family. Stay away from public places. Don't buy into 95% of what you're hearing on social media/other forums. There is a LOT of fake news right now. People are sharing spam emails as fact. For example: "BREAKING: AMAZON CANCELS ALL NON_ESSENTIAL SHIPMENTS!"
no, you got an email from NFJKDSNJKFHDJKJKSF@PHISHING.COM that wanted you to log in to a fake site with your amazon credentials..
or THE INCUBATION PERIOD IS ACTUALLY 5 WEEKS. No, it probably isn't. It sounds like 14 days at most.
SCIENTISTS PROVE THIS CAUSES INFERTILITY. No, it probably doesn't. That article was pulled because it was speculation.
Times are weird, and you need to check on your friends, and love your family.
Man, Facebook is constant misinformation as it is but with the virus it's ridiculous! It just amazes me how people don't think critically or at least do some checking on Google before they share this stuff.

The almost infinite number of people that post BS as fact, whether it be Facebook or elsewhere, is frightening. It's also eye-opening. I've learned that several people I was friends with at one point or another are complete and utter morons. On the bright side, I didn't have to find out in person...

I also find it kind of ironic that most all of the conspiracy nutjobs that I know are active or recovering addicts. Whether it is alcohol or drugs doesn't seem to make a difference.

Most of the nutters I know are addicts, except for the small subset that are straight-edge weiners. Those folks have some REALLY wild theories that they cling to.
Not to say all straight edgers are that way. But straight edge and nutter together makes things nuttier.
TurboPablo wrote:It's this whole "Don't trust reality because I watched a podcast that said such and such and this guy knows way more than your guy...." that drives me insane.
You know, sometimes, something is exactly what it seems to be and you should accept that and act accordingly.

They are allowing people who owe the federal goverment any taxes (up to a million dollars) to not pay them to uncle sam for the time being (includes small business) - there is also some package for hotels, resteruants, service type industries (Who are sadly getting HAMMERED) They said they realize that while some people can work from home that MANY cant and must travel for work. NY State is considering a 2 month furlough for Rent for homes and small business types
Hopefully this will help stabilize sooner than later

I would be curious to understand how this helps landlords who need the rent to pay mortgages, electricity and sanitation charges and a host of other things that come with owning those properties. Why are renters viewed differently than homeowners with mortgages? Now all we need is the waiving of student loan payments because, God forbid, people are required to honor their commitments.
/Rant

That sounds like socialism to me. Why can't people just pick themselves up by their bootstraps? I started my own business. My father only lent me $60 million to start it. I practically did it all on my own.

Could we not go straight to standard political baiting?
I honestly think a frank discussion of how to help people through this when there will be thousands out of a job for long enough to leave them homeless is in order and shouldn't have anything to do with particular political figures whether you like them or not.
This isn't a your side/my side issue.
