It does seem us Americans like to rage impotently at everything that we don't understand. While some of us are contemplative and trying to wrap our heads around it, there's a whole subset of society right now, a not insignificant subset, that are angry, and looking for somebody or something to punch or shoot.

Stay safe and avoid crowds.

Yep, I'm sick of people not taking this at least somewhat seriously. They(governments/businesses/etc.) wouldn't go to these measures otherwise. The money lost will be staggering.

It's invisible like a radiation cloud. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not dangerous. It's like the people on the bridge at Chernobyl. They all died directly from radiation.

There is NOTHING to lose by being cautious. There is EVERYTHING to lose if you feel like screwing yourself because of your macho pride. If Kid rock doesn't kill somebody's parents, he didn't gain anything. He just looks like a jackass.

My view is skewed because there is a case at a rehab facility .5 miles from my house, and my streets sounded like a warzone 2 nights ago. This is like nothing I've ever seen. Oh, and this rate cut is going to put every life insurance/annuity company out of business eventually. They can't make money with the rates at zero. Then, you have a double whammy with equities in the spiral death toilet.

When the market dropped 3000 yesterday, I kind of felt like puking.

On a side/good note, there is some progress on a vaccine

No nothing is ready for the immediate future but several prominent biologists here AND some doctors from overseas have said some REAL progress is being made, (simular drug used for MERS and other recent pandemics) also some people in the Seattle area have received a trial vaccine

Be smart, be vigilant and hopefully we get some positive news sooner than later

Update, the amazon thing was a half truth or quarter truth:

"Amazon.com Inc <AMZN.O> is suspending sellers(3rd party) from sending non-essential products to its U.S. and U.K. warehouses until April 5 in the latest move to free up inventory space for much-needed supplies that are in shortage as a result of the coronavirus outbreak."

So, when people say, "amazon won't ship non-essential items." it's not true.

I think there is plenty of reason to be angry at the leadership of this country. They were warned well in advance and chose to not take this virus seriously. This administration was concerned about their own image over public health and safety. Outside of that, I agree that it is best to be patient with each other. But, anger towards the uppermost leadership is infinitely justified.

This entire situation could have been avoided. But vanity rules right now. So here we are.

I will also speculate that the change in cheeto face's tone yesterday had nothing to do with public health and safety and everything to do with internal polling that shows them getting clobbered.

This should have never been a political issue. But that's inescapable now. We are way past that point.

I agree with your general sentiment, but especially this last part. For some stupid reason our leadership, even in the house and senate, can't get it together and realize this isn't a your side/my side issue. We're all facing this shit and we ALL need to work together to get through it. Fuck!

Amazon is also announcing they'll be hiring 100,000 additional warehouse workers to help with the increased demand during the crisis. Probably going to be a lot of ex-waiters and entertainment employees taking those jobs for the time being. Those are shit jobs from everything I've heard, but they are jobs.

Hug your family. Stay away from public places. Don't buy into 95% of what you're hearing on social media/other forums. There is a LOT of fake news right now. People are sharing spam emails as fact. For example: "BREAKING: AMAZON CANCELS ALL NON_ESSENTIAL SHIPMENTS!"

no, you got an email from NFJKDSNJKFHDJKJKSF@PHISHING.COM that wanted you to log in to a fake site with your amazon credentials..

or THE INCUBATION PERIOD IS ACTUALLY 5 WEEKS. No, it probably isn't. It sounds like 14 days at most.

SCIENTISTS PROVE THIS CAUSES INFERTILITY. No, it probably doesn't. That article was pulled because it was speculation.

Times are weird, and you need to check on your friends, and love your family.

Man, Facebook is constant misinformation as it is but with the virus it's ridiculous! It just amazes me how people don't think critically or at least do some checking on Google before they share this stuff.

The almost infinite number of people that post BS as fact, whether it be Facebook or elsewhere, is frightening. It's also eye-opening. I've learned that several people I was friends with at one point or another are complete and utter morons. On the bright side, I didn't have to find out in person...

Facebook is for dummies.

I also find it kind of ironic that most all of the conspiracy nutjobs that I know are active or recovering addicts. Whether it is alcohol or drugs doesn't seem to make a difference.

Most of the nutters I know are addicts, except for the small subset that are straight-edge weiners. Those folks have some REALLY wild theories that they cling to.

Not to say all straight edgers are that way. But straight edge and nutter together makes things nuttier.

It's this whole "Don't trust reality because I watched a podcast that said such and such and this guy knows way more than your guy...." that drives me insane.

There is a press conference right now

They are allowing people who owe the federal goverment any taxes (up to a million dollars) to not pay them to uncle sam for the time being (includes small business) - there is also some package for hotels, resteruants, service type industries (Who are sadly getting HAMMERED) They said they realize that while some people can work from home that MANY cant and must travel for work. NY State is considering a 2 month furlough for Rent for homes and small business types

Hopefully this will help stabilize sooner than later

The gawd damn podcast culter drives me utterly insane. Are there experts making podcasts? Sure. But, and this is the thing nobody riding those fuckers seems to get, any moron with a microphone and internet access can make podcasts that sound professional. Just because it's in a podcast doesn't mean it's from an expert.

Now, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram don't help by taking every little grain of truth then stretching, bending, manipulating and mangling it beyond recognition. It's like the old telephone game but way bigger. Even positive messages get mangled by the time they've passed through the Facebookasphere and been handed around ten thousand times.

Just got the word, we're going work from home for all who can. They aren't forcing it just yet, but we're "strongly encouraged."

Works for me. The previous days I've worked from home I get a shit-ton more done because I don't have half the building coming to ask the same questions five times an hour. :thu:

I would be curious to understand how this helps landlords who need the rent to pay mortgages, electricity and sanitation charges and a host of other things that come with owning those properties. Why are renters viewed differently than homeowners with mortgages? Now all we need is the waiving of student loan payments because, God forbid, people are required to honor their commitments.

I hear ya - for sure theres is no easy answer, from what i read it would just be temporary (30 day or 60 type thing) they are also considering sending $$ directly to Americans, it seems like they want to go big and put all options on the table. this fcking market is so wobbly right now and people are hurting

As far as student loans and people paying back and honering commitments, have you not seen some old guy running around the country telling kids they dont have to pay back student loans

Could we not go straight to standard political baiting?

I honestly think a frank discussion of how to help people through this when there will be thousands out of a job for long enough to leave them homeless is in order and shouldn't have anything to do with particular political figures whether you like them or not.

This isn't a your side/my side issue.

Maybe the furlough is for the homeowner of the rental property, not the tenant? NY State could give the owner 2 months extra to pay their property taxes an/or taxes on the income from that property? This may help the owner in case the tenant is unable to pay their rent due to a work shutdown?

That sounds like socialism to me. Why can't people just pick themselves up by their bootstraps? I started my own business. My father only lent me $60 million to start it. I practically did it all on my own.

Yeah, there's a lot of maybes tossed in with any amount of reassurance we're hearing. It'd be nice to see something concrete, even if it's still a ways out from being implemented. Restaurant workers, hotel workers, theater workers, bar owners and other entertainment and service industry folks aren't going to be feeling real great sitting at home stewing over how they're going to get by.

Yeah Kimmi makes a living teaching vocals at a music school here. Effective today her income is gone. We're not in trouble because I am still working and we don't have a mortgage. But still, it sucks.

If this situation becomes a lesson for people in general to pay off their debt and have some savings, then all hope is not lost. That was part of the bigger meaning when I said earlier that I hope this reminds people how good a simple life can be. Sometimes you just have to get by.

In my case, I am beyind thankful for the job I have. It can be totally inconvenient sometimes. But it'll never disappear.
