Anyone here ever had pipi shrimp?

Post by mortatone »

I had never even heard of them. Just bought some at an Asian market that I didn’t even know about. It’s probbaly been there for years and I just didn’t notice it

They all all manner of seafood, frozen, fresh and live. I wanted to try something new and saw this type of shrimp and decided to try em.

Report back (if you live)!

Looks like something I'd kill with a shoe and throw in the rubbish bin.

OK so they're also called Mantis shrimp, which I have heard of but didn't know anything about. Pretty cool!

I wonder if cockroaches turn pink/red when you cook them the same way other popular-food crustaceans do, and if they taste similar.

I saw a video of a factory in China (or maybe Taiwan?) that makes and sells cockroach juice (seriously). They mention it tastes kind of like fish and is supposedly good for you

I threw one in the pan with some pot stickers earlier tonight and it tasted like it could have been good if it wasn't loaded down with salt. I guess that's what you get from seafood that's traveled half way 'round the world and isn't expensive as fuck :(
