Maybe he is bummed Cynthia Nixon lost. In his dullness and confusion he might have thought a win for her would have improved his pathetic situation.
He and Ry can take comfort in a good man pleading guilty to some charges. As they eke out their desperate lives maybe they feel better seeing stuff like this. Whatever makes the poverty and hopelessness more bearable.
