We learnt both at school here. We learnt feet and inches centre meters and meters. We still use miles for speed and we still use feet and inches for height. Most other things are metric and make more sense.

When I was visiting my brother, pumping gas in liters confused the hell out of me. I also don't think most Americans are willing to accept kilometers, kilograms or celsius. But maybe we could adopt every other metric measure and use a hybrid system. Personally, I could handle Kilometers because it's basically a ÷/.6 or ×1.8 conversion until we begin to think in kph and the like.
