you would have to ask for a kilo and that would get twice as much turkey. There is no downside.

Imperial does have its advantages when working with fractions. Otherwise, yeah, I'd rather do metric.

I’m for it. Using imperial is just one of those “we do it this way because weve always done it that way” things but on a national scale.

At work we work in both and metric is generally easier.
That said getting a sense of how far a distance like 200 mm is was weird.

When I was in 6th and 7th grade, the whole country was supposed to go metric.
After two years of metric schoolwork, the scheme was suddenly dropped and everyone was like, WTF? Two years down the shitter!

I still believe that tool manufacturers were behind the shutdown.
If we went metric, mechanics would only need one set of tools and that would have meant 50% less tools would be sold.

Metric is fine...
1/2 cm = 5 mm easy peazy

We should have stuck it out.

Not gonna lie, I wish we'd convert.

All those years I spent in a lab? Nothing but metric system. Pretty much every time I ride my bike? Km over miles and yards, all day e'ry day.

Plus, the dates make perfect sense in European-eze - day<month<year. I think it appeals to my OCD. :idk:

I use metric at work and it makes unit conversion so easy. I would be down for the change, but every level of our government is so dysfunctional that I couldn't see it going smoothly at all. Can you imagine the amount of work it would take to change building codes, road signs etc. It's too much work for something that most people don't even want to begin with.

Something so grating about the way it sounds. "kilo". gah. Even worse: "kigs" or "K". "Centimeter" come on.

I can accept "2 liter". That's ok. Any other number of liters sounds wrong.

Also national security. The more quirky you keep your stuff, like train track gauges, the harder it is for invaders.

I generally prefer metric. I'm in the same boat as Billy. Lived in a bunch of countries that use it. It's generally easier.

Metric all the way. The only goofy thing working in engineering for pipe and equipment sizes are that we use the converted imperial values, which makes things look really arbitrary. 3/8" vs. 9.525 mm. Schedule pipe, nominal pipe sizes and the like.

metric is so much easier for precise measurements as well as scaling up and down shit.... Trinidad is strange though since we use both since we were an English colony but during WWII there was a massive American influence due to them building two bases here... so all our speed signs on the highways are in Kilometers per hour but if you ask someone how tall or long something is they will tell you in feet and inches... what I found funny was I noticed on my trips to the UK is the opposite, speed signs on the highway are in miles per hour and distances and lengths are described in meters and centimeters....
