I like the salt & pepper cloth. I'm going to do one so I can change my panel when the mood suits, and try to be as cool as you guys
I was surprised at how easy it was to make the panel, the hardest part was finding a 1/2" thick piece of wood, as I don't have a planer. Routed the bottom edge to get that curved feature and used grillcloth and piping from mojotone. the head panel turned out better than my speaker grill cloth
Let's see pics and hear more about your homemade cab. I built up a 2x12 that's half Thiele with the requisite EVM-12L speaker and half partial-open-back with a Boogie MC90. Turned out pretty good for a prototype. Gonna build a bigger one if/when I change out my 4x12 to a 'real' one (my current guy is pretty tiny, and I matched the 2x12 to it's width).

Started this project because I wanted to add an extension cab to my vt30. Started with 30 some year old cabinets that came out of my parents kitchen. They're laminated something, could be birch, i'm not sure. Since I mostly practice at home in my small "office" in the basement (no actual office type work has ever occurred in this room, its full of guitars, amps, drums and keyboard...for the kids lol), I wanted something that pointed up at me, instead of at my shins. So I attempted to make a copy of this http://www.mojotone.com/amp-parts/cabinets-custom-shop/Mojotone-Angled-Guitar-Amplifier-Speaker-Extension-Cabinet#.UUB9Tlfp8aM It was louder, but it wasn't enough, hence the jca50. had to wait for santa to bring me the head and all the grill cloth, piping, hardware. Definitely learned a lot making it. In the end only saved about a hundred bucks doing it myself (even with free wood) and spent a lot of hours in the shop. It was a fun project but not sure I'll do it again. Tolex is a pain! Corners are not fun, and corner covers are your best friend. Its closed back with 2 Weber Sig12b's. They're ok, but might upgrade to some better weber's when I get some extra cash.
