Which of these rigs is the most sexy?

Post by Tommy Eisen »

My band has convinced me to stop using my 2 channel recto because of all things it's not bright enough and my other guitar player is using a Tremoverb, so they want a slightly different tone and that cuts more because I play the lead parts. Anyway, I've decided to start using a Mark rig again. Which one should I choose? I'm total fashion whore when it comes to this stuff.

No matter what I'm going to be using the cab in this picture, not the ones below, those stay in my studio.

I accidentally voted for "fuck my band."

Ebony and Mark III all the way.
With how highly you've spoken about the III it seems like a no brainer.

Now if it was me in my band and I had your gear it'd the silveburst into the IV or one of your many sick Marshall rigs.

I know. That actually is my favorite amp, fffffffuuuuuuuuuu

I think the Mark IV hits the tone more they want me to have which is sort of that trebly reverby adolescents sound. It's killing me those because 2 rectos, one with EL34s, one with 6l6s is just so sonically wide and massive, and I don't really want that thin tone. Even if I love 80s punk, it doesn't mean I necessarily want that thin sound. But yeah, I've played many killer shows with my Mark III, and I does just feel right live.

That silver burst is way to nice to see the small shitty stages I usually play. Now If I play someplace bigger like Pea bodies, that shit's coming out in a second.

I picked the Mark III for fewer knobs and it should be bright enough for good contrast. I chose ebony, but it doesn't really matter. They both look cool.

Yeah, like the less knobs look too. I totally honest to god stoped using my JVM simply because all those knobs look goofy Hahahahah, yes I'm a spoiled asshole.

Have you tried either mark with this band?
Every time I've played mark and recto opposite its been fucking stellar.

Basically if the III gets you stoked live that's enough right there IMO. Enjoying yourself is one of the most important aspects when playing out and it sounds like that amp will deliver that for ya.

Yup, I have. The Mark IV sits perfectly for that lead tone. But I've never like you said, had fun playing a Mark IV live. I've had great shows with the Mark III. Your right that wins.

Are they both Trad Pros? If so, then flip a coin, black or gold, it don't matter none. Both. Into the III.

BUY MORE CABS. ALL OF THEM. FUCK RHYTHM, PLAY LEAD. CONSTANTLY. WIPE OUT REST OF BAND.

Fuck, why even ask this question?

Well I do have mesa 3 cabs, and 6 mesa heads. I could just line up 3 cabs, and stack them all 2 high and use some sort of ABY pedal. But yeah, no ones going to be happy if I do that.

Actually thats an idea. Those cabs can be run in stereo right?
How about you run a Y pedal and run both the III and your Recto.

That would be cool, but I'm way to lazy for that. Now way I want to lug that to gigs.

You would be. If you're a lead guitarist, that's all that should matter to you. In fact, you should find ways to sabotage the PA everywhere you play so only you show up in the FOH.

I may or may not be having bad flashbacks from my band days right now.

I say keep in mind the bass is the ballz of a band so what might seem thin on paper may sound massive in context

Its only one extra head really. And the Mark III is barely more work for being an extra.

Nah fuck two cabs, agree too much work.
An A/B/Y pedal and Mark III would be the only extra gear compared to just bringing the Recto like you were planning.

Make one of the assholes thats making you change carry the extra shit haha.

I wish I had any of these as my option.

Fuck your band. ALWAYS fuck your band. I don't actually subscribe to the whole "you need different amps to cut". Amps have tone controls, different guitars sound different, you can boost or otherwise change volume, and most importantly... you should be arranging the two guitars so they don't step on each other musically.

I've seen so many bands where the guitarists use the same kind of amp and it's not a problem.
