It occurred to me, that
Kung Foo Panda II has better characters, acting, direction and overall does a better job of storytelling than Star Wars Ep I, II & III.
That is all.
That is all.

Even though I've never seen KFP II or SW Episode 3, I fully believe this to be true.

At least if KFP2 has small bearlike creatures in it, it'll make SOME sort of sense outside of a marketing moneygrab.

After having kids I am completely convinced that most of the animated/Pixar stuff is 99% better than anything else out there, I consistently enjoy them more than other movies I go see...

Re: It occurred to me, that
Just to be clear on all this:
I won't deny that there are bits and pieces of SW (1,2,3) that just kick ass (Duel of the Fates lightsaber battle comes to mind) but most of it is crap. KFP-II has a more cohesive story, better performances, and better character growth and motivation.
I am, at once, saddened and amused by this realization.

It's well known that the ewoks were Lucas's attempt at ruining a great movie.
Re: It occurred to me, that
Episode IV is glorious. Great themes, great little self contained story arc, slightly lackluster performances but it had an overall energy to it that none of the other movies were ever able to recapture. Episodes I, II & III however, are drek.

My dislike for the entire Star Wars franchise is well documented. That said, The Ewoks are the only thing that I LIKED out of all of the movies.
Well, to be fair, I couldn't get through more than 15 minutes of Revenge of the Sith. That was a piece of shit before it even got started....

Akira tells it's story from a more serious pov, certainly. I do not think it is more successful than kfp2 at telling its story. I've always found Akira to be a bit difficult to follow and it's performances a bit too Speed Racer'ish for my taste. Overall, it's enjoyable - and it's better than SW I, II, and III - but I have to say I'm not convinced its better than kfp2.
