This thread was about whether forums are for old people.
Before it even reached the 2nd page, the thread already shifted into the subject of high quality wool socks.
If that doesn't answer the question, I don't know what would.

I prefer message boards/forums like these, honestly. It's easier to sort than the vomit that's most bigger social media. I also still prefer physical media as well. Is all my music on my computer digitally so I can load it to my phone? Sure thing. I also have physical copies of about 80% of that stuff. CDs and Vinyl. No better back up than the real thing.

Totes.
My wife gives me no end of shit when I get CDs delivered. "How old are you!?"
I was thinking about the social media I use and found myself young enough to think that Facebook is really for my older family members to give away their security question answers and old enough that TikTok trends make me fucking mad. I use IG, Discord, and here. Mostly.
What's the benefit of buying CDs? Maybe I missed the point of owning digital media on fragile plastic discs that take up space and don't offer any advantage.

I personally hate hoarding physical media
I've fully embraced the digiverse

I buy CDs from local bands or smaller bands I like if they offer the option of buying directly from them, either online or at the merch table, so the bulk of the money goes to them. Mostly a display of support to the artist. But even then, I end up streaming the music anyway, but honestly I don't even own a CD player anymore. I literally have CDs here I never opened and I stream the exact same music I bought on CD CDs do sound better under ideal conditions (i.e. if you have a proper sound system to listen to them). But on car speakers/ear buds etc meh...it's pretty much the same.
Streaming is just easier though. I do wish artists were paid better for this stuff but it's not a problem I can solve so

Yeah honestly, here is the only social media I use (well sometimes TGP mostly for the classifieds).
I am still on facebook, mostly to manage the band's page since a lot of promoters use it to confirm events. But I rarely post anything. Maybe an owl or guitar picture here and there. And classified ads. But I sure as hell don't get involved in threads or discussions on FB.
I had Twitter and canceled it years ago because I never used it. I *think* I have Instagram but I haven't opened it in years. Tik Tok etc... I don't even know how to use it.
This forum slowed down a lot the last few years too, I wonder how much longer it will keep going. I will definitely keep it running for as long as it is needed but anything technology creates technology eventually kills so it's all a matter of time before we are doing jams on VR or whatever will replace social media.

I've had enough hard drives die in the past wiping out all my ripped media to make me not want to go thru that exercise again. But at the same time, licensing agreements have made songs on streaming services just disappear as quickly that I feel trapped in the middle of both planes of existence.
I only had Facebook back-n-the-day and I deleted that account in 2014, so I’m going on eight years without social media. GGF is about as much social-media’ing that I do.
Apparently the FDP (Fender Discussion Page) where I started is gone.
I get the feeling that the www is not so wide anymore. People are no longer collectively awed by the magnitude of the www as I was. What once seemed like the whole world at the tips of our fingers, the internet now seems to provide countless enclaves and closets for every little vice.
Dave wrote:I use FB for the memory section so I can systemically delete everything I've ever posted without having to do it all in one fell swoop.
Discord is all I really use.
I did that same for an entire year, every single day. Finally deleted my FB a few months ago after not using it for at least 5 years prior. Wow it was a lot of junk. Social media stuff was cool for a while, but it's easy (for me at least) to let it consume you. Plus I feel like I'm too old to still be using social media. I figure I'm not a social dude in real life, so I want to focus on not being a different person on social media.
