Honestly, SpaceX is killing it when it comes to space travel. People love to point at the Starship blowups and say "Musk can't even get to space," and they somehow completely ignore the Dragon/Falcon situation which has been human rated and actually transporting human beings into orbit for quite a while now.
I'm super excited by the prospect of what the Starship design will be capable of doing once it's further along in the test cycle. That's gonna be one massive cargo carrier. Not to mention the potential size of crewed missions.
They're different things. Musk is looking into actual space exploration. Bezos/Branson plan is just to come up with a way to sell tickets for a joyride in the stratosphere. Which is cool, because I bet there will be many kids inspired to join Musk's team/mission after taking the joyride in one of these super planes.
I am glad to see it was successful and hopefully they will be able to expand it to a commercial level in the near future. For all that's wrong with the world today, these projects are not part of them...

I think space travel and development is super cool and we've gotten many technological revelations from that stuff but I just don't see the benefit of this specifically. Is it cool? Absolutely.
I just don't see how it doesn't become just another toy/flex for the international ultra wealthy. Count down until the day they start selling tickets to space Dubai, that is unless they're planning to somehow make this affordable to people beyond the 1%.

That's Bezos plan. On his post landing interview he mentioned that aviation was for the ultra wealthy until it wasn't... and today you have $200 roundtrips tickets. That's his goal in the long run.
A lot of things we take for granted today started out as a flex for the ultra wealthy.. cell phones etc.. it's cool and Bezos definitely has the purchase power to make it happen.

Fair points, I’ll guess we’ll see if it’s possible. I guess I just have my doubts considering the relative energy requirements but hey that’s exactly what research into things like this potentially brings right? Break through in physics that transcends what we thought was previously not possible.
EDIT Also just going to say I’d give up probably a decade worth of vacations for a ticket on such a thing. I cannot imagine how amazing such an experience like that would be.

Phish sometimes has some tasty jams
They do and what I've listened to from this tour they've been killing it. Gonna go to Dick's lot and try and find some tix labor day weekend. Worse case scenario there will be plenty of drugs
