Ozzys best guitarist

Post by jnurp »

I wont include Iommi because that was Sabbath, and Gus,its too soon obviously and I wont include Gillis when he briefly filled in for live shows after randy passed.

So Randy, jake or Zakk.

Who do you choose and why.

Im torn on all three, here is the way I see it.

Randy is the original and wrote the most classic tracks with ozzy and influenced a generation of players. His licks were the most creative and his style was so inspiring.

jake had the most swagger and played in the glory days of hard rock. he was never considered the best but held his own and has some of my personal favorite ozzy moments. Ill put up bark at the moon against anything ozzy ever did. That record is special to me so maybe Im speaking from personal preference. jake had the most pleasing style to my ears from his vibrato to his note selection.

Zakk is undoubtedly the most talented of the three and influenced way more players than the other two. Zakk has the most distinctive style and approach and has bigger muscles. Im not a fan of anything ozzy did after shot in the dark so the zakk stuff for me is not on any playlist of mine but there is no denying his talent and originality.

So if I had to start a band with one of these guys, I guess I would choose zakk because his talent is just so overwhelming but I guess you cant go wrong with any of em.

Zakk just seemed to get cliche'd after a while.

Randy seemed to have more pure talent to me. Too bad his tone sucked.

I don't think Zakk was the most talented and influenced the most guitar players. I would say that was Randy, but that's just my $.02.

Srs? I'd say Randy was way more influential than Zakk.

I also think that Zakk pretty much just took what Jakey was already doing and made it a little heavier

guys zakk is insanely talented. To me he is by far the best player of the three. maybe he is overrated because of his horrificly cheesy image and marketing bullshit but zakk is one of the most amazing rock players I have ever heard.

To the bolded part above: WAT? I doubt that Zakk was the most talented. That would definitely be Randy.

Zakk has lived to be a lot older than Randy. If Randy had lived to be as old he would have developed his skills too. Based on where his talent level when he died he would have far surpassed Zakk. He probably already did, it's just that he wasn't able to showcase his full talent and skill on the limited body of work he recorded during his lifetime.

zakk was in his mid 20's in that clip. randy died at 25. idk, Randy was a great player and had ridiculously tasty licks but I hear a HUGE talent difference when I hear zakk and randy. Randy makes me go wow that was really cool, zakk just makes me go WOW.

Bolded/italicized part x 1billion.
Jake is my favorite. I like his style (with Ozzy) the best out of the 3. Maybe he's my favorite out of spite  I didn't like his stuff after that as it was too bluesy for my taste.

Zakk's more of a fast pentatonic player.

Randy was also into arps and diminished scales too.

Randy is the supreme pizza of Ozzy guitarists.

Jake is the pepperoni pizza with a side of garlic butter for dipping.

Zakk is a cheese pizza burnt enough that you want to send it back but you're drunk so you still eat it and vow to never order from that place again.

Dude I'm the first one to admit that I'm a shitty guitar player, but there's nothing really impressive in this video to me. I could grab my 12 string and do that. :idk:

That said, Randy was my favorite of the three.

Zakk just turned into the one of if not the best cliché of metal doucheness that ever existed.

I mean come on... Zakk Wylde? What a stupid way to spell that. His real fucking name is Jeffery. (insert facepalm here)

I love Zakk, but I gotta go with Randy on this one. Blizzard and Diary are both genius in the guitar dept. Zakk is really the guy who influenced me early on, but really he reminds me more of a heavier John Sykes, and I don't mean that as a slant against Zakk, I love Sykes also. But I can't think of a song Zakk ever did(on an Ozzy record at least) that's as haunting sounding and clever as the opening chords to Diary of a Madman.

RR was already dumping OZZy when he died. Cant say that would be good for OZZY! Have you heard Jake lately?? Zak kept OZZY afloat for decades and did most of the work . Zak would also chew up Jake in a current showdown. Brad Gillis was also better than Jake when he took his hand off the whammy. I voted for the Wyldeman.
