Not really a big deal either way, to me anyhow. The grain is tighter and the wood is a little harder/denser than rosewood, but honestly if I didn't know it was maple I might not even have noticed.

Many modern Pauls are weight relieved or chambered.
At any rate LP Specials and Juniors generally have never been particularly heavy since they have a thinner flat-top body without the arched maple cap,
My boat anchor only weighs 7 pounds.

LP Special's aren't known to be "boat anchors". Now, 70's era LP Customs,....
