The black dragonfish — Idiacanthus atlanticus — is a rather strange-looking, long and slender fish that lives in the mesopelagic and bathypelagic waters of the world’s oceans, typically being found at depths of between 5000-7000 feet.

I was a big swimming nut....
until once when I was stationed in Okinawa....was snorkeling.....and seen one of these about 5 feet away from me!!! :eek:

I wouldn't fret too much about the hammerheads. As of 2011 there have have been only 34 attacks recorded worldwide, 17 of which were unprovoked, and no fatalities. That's a pittance compared to tiger sharks, bull sharks and of course, great whites.
