Welfare shopping spree!

Post by Dave »

http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/ ... bt-glitch/

Wal Mart encouraged this despite knowing it was an error. People stole more food then they could even need/use.

No one reverted back to the $50 a day limit for emergency use. Mad house ensues until spending limits are announced to be back in place. Then the circus drops everything and leaves a gigantic mess to deal with.

No shit. What a friggin mess that was. People are real shit hooks these days.

Did you see what happened at a Philadelphia MS Walmart? They had the opposite problem...EBT cardholders weren't allowed to buy anything because of this glitch, so they caused a mini riot and took food out of the stores without paying.

Just think, some Walmart store manager probably just earned his quarterly bonus for having the busiest October sales day in the history of Walmart.

I'm curious why only 2 Louisiana Wal marts had this happen. They were broadcasting it and the scum came out in droves.

Louisiana sucks.

Many decent people are in situations where they are on food stamps or other forms of assistance. HOWEVER the people depicted in this article who were outright stealing are just plain human garbage, totaly worthless pieces of shit.

this... it's amazing how greed sometimes can just override all sense of decency.. but then in a capitalist society you're taught to take advantage of situations like this no?

A true capitalist society has no social safety net to be taken advantage of.

Thus, this would never happen in a truly free market free of government meddling.

Did you seriously just go there?

Not really, no.

These people were only buying this much junk because of a glitch. They over purchased with the knowledge they were spending more than they had available.

I think Wal mart is just as much at fault since they knew about the issue and encouraged people to buy more. The sheriff told them it was within their rights to refuse ebt until the system was working again.

I think all parties should be charged with fraud and theft.

I'm not saying it wasn't a really douchy thing they did... possibly bordering illegal but rule #1 with capitalism... buy low sell high... if someone mislabels a price tag it's the store's fault right? if Walmart let them walk out the store with the goods especially after being told they didn't have to IMO it absolves the people that took advantage of it.. as sly, cheap and underhanded as it was..

walmart is easily equally to blame, if not more to be honest. the amount of the fraud should be tacked on to their taxes.

but seriously though there is no fraud with food stamps, this never happened and your sources are way too far to the right to even be considered.

Ok so they took advantage of a glitch. Consider it an advance on their welfare. My response? Leave their account negative until the standard contributions make up for the overspend.

Or if Wal Mart wants to cover it, then consider it a gift from the Waltons.

Also, as Lloyd pointed out, capitalism shouldn't have a welfare system.

This is biting the hand that feeds type of stuff.

I agree with both off those suggestions... but I would lean more to Walmart taking the brunt of the blame since they were told that they didn't have to honour the sales but did anyway...

Wal Mart is aware of the known policy, as are welfare recipients, that limits spending to $50 a day in the event of a glitch. This is to prevent people from starving due to a computer issue.

While individual citizens may be absolved of reading fine print and can explain it as a lapse in judgment, Wal mart has a legal dept the size of a developing country.

Wal mart was made aware by store employees and notified the two stores to keep selling.

That's willfully breaking the law.

Yeah I hope the govt revert all these transactions and let Wal Mart pay for all the merchandise stolen. Obviously, they saw the glitch and used that as an opportunity to sell more and send the bill to the taxpayer.
