Sean Costello Appreciation Thread.

Post by Telephant »

I didn't get into this dude until the day of his death when Diddlybo posted a RIP thread for him on HCAF. Since that day I have been in love with this guys music and playing. Really sucks balls I didn't get to see him live. He died much too young. Killer tone, killer playing, killer voice. Complete package. Enjoy:

This is the kinda shit John Mayer wishes he had the soul for:

His albums are also on Spotify. I encourage you all to check him out. One of a kind.

Yeah, that was me. Helluva player, that one. Nice guy, too. He was fun to watch play, the music just seemed to flow right out. Usually played thru old tweed amps with his old goldtop LP, which was light as a feather, btw. Not all of those old ones were back breakers. Holy shit, it doesn't seem like 5 years since he passed.

For you guys into old school stuff, give him a listen. Like Shea says, he was the total package

Ya his was a '54 right? Killer fucking guitar sound. Man I go few months without listening to him and then I come right back around. Almost brings a tear to my eye that I'll never see this guy and we won't get anymore music from him.

I edited the OP to give credit where credit is due. :)

Epic! Gat damn I love his style so much. He's got his own voice and that is what makes him so special IMO. This one is great too:

I've been listening to him all day on Spotify. A couple of these albums I had never heard before. All of it is great! :rawk:

After doing some research, the gold top with the wrap around bridge is a '53. The one with a tune-o-matic is an R6. Diddlybo, check out this thread for some cool info and close up pics of his guitar:

Thanks for sharing. I love his playing style and his tone.

And, yeah, soul: the difference between this guy and John Mayer. The difference between Ben Harper and Lenny Kravitz. The difference between Sublime and Sugar Ray. The difference between Alice in Chains and Creed. :thu:
"If there was only a way that I couldn't even any less than I already can't then I'd gladly not, but I think I've entered some quantum paradox, dark matter levels of can't evening where the total absolute value of not evenness exceeds all ability to explain the can'ting." - MR RUBATO

Really like his music. Thanks for posting.
I am reminded of a friend of mine, Corby Yates, another musical phenom who suffered from schizophrenia and died much too young.

Back on a Costello kick. Dude was so fucking good it hurts. When well known musicians die it doesn't usually tear me up that bad but when ever I listen to Sean and start thinking about him it makes me incredibly sad. But the music is just too damn good not to blast. :rawk:

Check this out:

This version of I'm a Ram is ridiculously good:

The album version of this song is awesome because a tuba plays the bass line, but this version is sweet none the less:

Hell yes. One of my favorite modern blues guys... sucks that he's gone as I think he was one of the freshest sounds yet still sounded "authentic".

I've always talked myself out of P90's and I'm not sure why since before my LP I was always a single coil guy. I think its time to jump down that rabbit hole.

No half stepping' is one of my favorites.

The vocal hook for this one is almost on a continual loop in my head

Wow first time I'm hearing his version of this song.

He does a killer Freddie King cover here, and coincidentally there is a pic of Freddie behind him:
