It just hit 41C (106F) in the shade on the north side of the house. It's probably 45C (113F) in the direct sun. It's only 37C in Baghdad right now.

Note to self -- never, ever buy a house in a new subdivision without trees.

Check out the minimum from this year -23C (-9F) . Gotta love Canada's extremes.

I hear you. The unit we bought when we built the house was a piece of shit -- we didn't have a pot to piss in so we cheaped out. Last year, even with it on full blast, the house was still always warm.

We put in a 2-ton bad boy this year and it gets downright frosty. :thu:

Although I worry about my daughter being spoiled. I remember not sleeping between the months of June and September when I was younger because of the heat. We could only afford a window unit that would only cool about a 20-foot radius area. :D

Ugh. Its been nice here. 70s and then 80s. Now its around 90 and going to get hotter this weekend. :(

Fortunately, wifey and I are headed up to a "resort" in Wisconsin for the weekend. Woo hoo!

Thankfully July hasn't been like last year where we had a solid week of 100+ days. No thanks. No thanks at all!

Some poor bastards are ripping up and reinstalling interlock on a neighbour's driveway. And I saw a roofer wearing dark pants and a long-sleeved shirt on a roof today.

One summer I worked landscaping. There was a general labourer on the crew -- he was probably close to 60. Wire thin, nothing but bone and sinew. He wore those dark blue polyester work pants, blue denim shirt and windbreaker in 100-degree heat. We were laying sod one day and had to rake the top soil level for 8 hours straight.

He never stopped. Not for a break, not for lunch, not once.

I was 22 and in the best shape of my life and I was fucking dying.

"Aren't you going to stop for a break?!?" I asked him.

"I can't," he said. "If I stop I won't be able to start again."

Motherfucker had probably been working like that for 40 years making minimum wage. He'd be pushing 80 now and, if he's still alive, he's probably still working because of a lack of a liveable pension.

I do concrete for a living and we were pouring in a daylight basement in the summer on the hottest day i could remember around here. It was 108F and with the sun reflecting inside the basement it was easily 20 degrees hotter in there.

I literally drank 4 gallons of water that day and lost 8lbs.

My dad once rented a convertible Mustang to drive out to see the Hoover Dam when he was in LV. He put the top down and didn't think twice about it. He didn't put on a hat or sunscreen and the breeze from driving kept him cool -- or so he thought.

Later that evening at dinner with a bunch of friends at a restaurant, out of nowhere, he grabbed a pitcher of water off the table and poured it over his head just before keeling over.

Sun stroke.

On his back for two days.

I could do this shit all day.. Chicago has that sickly humid heat. . Or we have frigid cold... Only 2seasons.. Three if you count that water logged 35-50° time frame we call April..

But my point is, everyone i know complains about this 90 plus humid heat and they all say they'd take our winter over this.... Yeeeeeaaaahhhhh right! I can handle the cold just fine too, but fuck trying to drive and get around in that winter.. So i embrace this heat.. Hell, I'll never use AC in my car and the house is only set to 79°(Mainly for the wife and kids! But yeah, for me too during sleep time) i don't know why, but i enjoy the extreme heat.. Its like your body experiences another sense...

My condenser was out for two days a couple years ago when it was 120F+ outside. Bought Bed, Bath, & Beyond out of blackout curtains and it kept it to just over 90 inside. Trying to find an older model condenser without having to retrofit the whole house was an adventure. Now any external components are wrapped in UV-resistant insulation and tape. Have to re-insulate the externals every two years, that's how punishing the sun is.

I'd rather deal with insane heat than that batshit crazy winter shit y'all put up with.

Hell, I'm bummed its raining and in the 70-80's this week because I haven't been able to go swimming. Normally when it's above 90 I spend my lunch in the pool and its perfect. Mid 80's and the water gets a little cold...

Not me. When it's cold you just dress warmer, when it's hot what can you do? Partial nudity can only take you so far. I feel like utter shit when it's too hot.

120 F? As in 50 goddamn degrees? I would have moved away from that hellscape a long fucking time ago. Jesus. If the temperature never got above 25 (77 F) I'd be a very happy man.

Amen. I miss living in Nova Scotia for a lot of reasons, the weather being one of them. Rarely gets above 25C and low humidity. Halifax has a perfect climate -- the ocean keeps it cooler in the summer and milder in the winter.
