yes sir. The biggest improvement I've made in my computer was going to a SSD for my OS drive. My data is still stored on a conventional drive because I wanted 1tB and that's too expensive for SSD, but just loading my OS and software in the SSD (300gB) made a HUGE difference.

I want to get a SSD, but I think my graphics card is starting to fade so that will probably have to be my next PC upgrade.

They are a remarkable device. I have one in my laptop and another in a standard desktop. The experience is simply better by a country mile.

I have a SSD in my home computer, it was a good investment. I'm ready to go in probably 1/3 the time it took booting OS from conventional drive. I've tried installing different programs to it, they don't all have a perceivable difference but I'm sure read speed isn't a potential bottleneck for all applications either.

Of course, if boot speed is the most noticeable improvement with an SSD, just try windows 8 if you haven't already. My windows 8 laptop (conventional HDD) blows the doors off my windows 7 computer with the SSD as far as that goes.

The only device I have with a solid state drive is my Chromebook, AKA my toy to dick around with while watching TV. It's remarkable. Once I got used to a computer that fully boots in about four seconds, my regular laptop started to seem hopelessly sluggish and noisy (no fan in the CB either).

It is available, but yeah the cost is about $1/gB so you'd be looking at around a grand for a 1tB SSD. It's a lot.

Micron recently announced they are going to release a 1tB SSD for 60 cents/gB so around 600. That's still a lot for a hard drive though but more doable.

And yeah, I am on Windows 8 with the SSD drive, it fully boots in about 5-7 seconds.

Yeah, my recent computer build is on a 256gb SSD and it's awesome to boot so quick. Taking out the POST bios checks, it is about 3-4 seconds...

That's good. Still, windows 8 just boots FAST. My low-end laptop with an unimpressive HDD still is ready to go in 12-15. My win7 computer w/ SSD takes about 25-30.

The hardest part of the whole deal is setting up your libraries to read and save to the data/storage drive you run side by side. I have had enough practice though, it doesn't take more than 20 minutes after a fresh install to get everything up and running and referenced properly.

The real EXPERIENCE is running Mint 15 64 bit on a SSD. Holy crap !!! Windows 7 is the dog

I don't have a Windows machine with one, but I use my Asus Transformer tablet every single day, for 95% of my computer activities. I love the instant on, no heat, no noise, and fast performance.

I think it's safe to say that I will never buy another computer with a spinning disc. Prolly buy a medium sized Chromebook if I even need anything past my tablet.

I had a buddy who went crazy for SSDs. He badgered me non stop to jump on the band wagon, but I didn't. All 3 of the drives he had went tits up within a year, and he had major heart ache from that. Don't know what kinda drives they were, but it soured me on SSDs for another few years. I still have 10 year old IDE drives laying around that are still functional. Some of you guys get back to me in 8 or so years and maybe I'll change my mind about them

This is the current standard configuration: lower-capacity SSD for the OS and larger SAS/NL-SAS/SATA drive(s) for data/programs.

I went with a hybird SSD on my laptop about a year ago. It made a huge difference in start up time and response of frequently used programs. And I still have 720GB for storage.

i retrofitted sata connections to my boss sd1 pedal(which is solid state). then i installed it in my other computer replacing the internal primary hard drive. now that computer doesn't work.

the startup chime(its an old mac) now sounds very distorted, quite crunchy in character which is cool but then computer crashes before starting up. even with boot cd intended to install the OS it crashes. shouldn't i be getting better performance compared the the standard hard drive? could i have misinterpreted posts in this thread?
