Who's the second greatest lefty guitarist of all time?

Post by benjamin801 »

(The only qualification is that he or she had to be primarily a lefty - MAB shredding backwards 5% of the time don't count!)

I think Tony Iommi is it, and Elliot Easton is somewhere in the top ten.

Tony Iommi

I wish Tony & Jimi could have collaborated together. Jimi sstole things from everyone. Imagine what he may have picked up from Tony?.

me & a friend of mine used to play a Hendrix like jam of Psychonaut.

then again, there's a tinge of Tony & Jimi in everything I play

Cobain would NOT be on the list as far as I am concerned. I would never consider him one of the greatest guitarists generally, let alone just for the left handed greats. I can see why some people would like him on there, but he certainly shouldn't be in the top two IMO.

Cobain was not a great guitarist, but he was a good song writer.

Hendrix wins this as he was exciting new and a wonder to watch when he started touring under his own name.

I titled the thread the way I did because I assumed most reasonable people would put Hendrix at #1. :idk:

I spit hot fire!!

Honestly, the part that always impressed me about Kurt's playing is his ability to sing and play at the same time. Not that either part was ever overly complicated; but to watch him do it, it just seemed to be two totally separate things that didn't conflict with one another in the slightest way.

Steve Morse is the same way. I met him back in the 90's and asked for an autograph, he grabs the pen wit his left hand and signs the paper.. I was like "holy shit you're left handed??"

not even close. I'd put Cobain in there just cause I love Nirvana and I don't give a fuck what anybody says. :D Course thats more from a songwriting perspective than shred factor.

I believe Mark Knopfler is also lefty but plays righty. And without a pick too.

Traitors!!! :D

Dick Dale does the same thing, and so did Albert King (incidentally, both those guys might be Top Ten IMO).

It always makes me :freak: to see someone play like that, though, even though I did the same thing for almost the first full year I played; I didn't have anyone to tell me otherwise.
