Kemper - This news is awesome

Post by ibenhad »

Kemper always one to stay ahead of the game and add new feautures and functionality for FREE. No other profiler/modeler can compete. The USB to audio feature alone is pretty killer.

While I agree that it's great that they're able to keep adding functionality to the unit, I wouldn't say no other profiler/modeler can compete.

I honestly think it says a lot from the Kemper folks that they're still innovating and not making people get buyers remorse when buying a unit and they come out with a new piece of kit in a couple of months. I wish I could've jived with mine, but it wasn't in the cards. I'm looking forward to see what this latest revision in their capture process will do moving forward.

Not sure how they’re changing the game here

Modeling people cope and seethe about USB whatever while the rest of us just plug in to our tube amps.

Of all the digital stuff I've tried, the Kemper was/is by far my favorite. The hardware is over 10 years old now and it's still getting software updates and sound better than the competition IMHO.

Fractal was on version 1 when the Kemper was released and that is completely obsolete now and sells for 500 bucks while the Kemper is still competitive in today's market and being use by pros.

So I think Kemper is doing things right. As far as digital goes they have the product with the longest longevity by far.

But personally I'm done with digital stuff.

It is pretty rad they're still releasing updates for this thing a decade after it was released

Only got to mess around with a Kemper once but I thought it was pretty dope

Obviously most of the Den of Scum is MEH on the Kemper and I probably should have posted the actual Video and let Christopf speak for himself. For a device that is 13 years old to be getting these kind of features and added functionality is unheard of. Apple products are dead after maybe 4 as far as updates and Android is not really much better. My Snax FX OG has Zero support and I could go on and on. I work in IT and NOTHING gets updates this long. EOS/EOL bulletins on the daily in my world. Hell auto manufactures have to keep parts made for 10 years after a car is no longer made. Anyway here is the video. :horse:

yeah I agree it's great that they do that. If I ever decide to get serious about digital again, Kemper is the only way I'd consider it.

I wish the video had an actual demonstration of the feature, although I think I understand the concept. It would've been great to actually hear it.

I don't believe the 5 new features are available just yet. Probably released soon. Some may not know it but Christopf is the same guy who brought us the Access Virus and that echosystem is still going strong how many years later?

I actually met him in 2013 at the LA Amp Show and we talked for a while. He mentioned he had "many years, maybe decades" worth of upgrades he could do with the existing Kemper hardware (which is still the same today). At the time time I thought to myself "yeah right  " but it turns out he was telling the truth. IMHO he's the guy in the forefront for digital guitar products.

And yet it’s hilarious that the forefront of digital modeling still can’t compete with a tube amp

every band that has switched to kemper, basically ruined their live tone. My prime exampe is listening to prong live stuff from 15+ years ago vs their stuff today. With that said, id rock a kemper all day every day.

See, this logic doesn't logic with me

I agree with the first part. Touring bands that have switched to Kempers/Axe/Whatever almost always sound significantly less good.

I don't understand how that leads to you wanting to "rock a kemper all day every day". That makes me want to avoid a kemper all day every day.

I think this technology has its place. If you play at home it's cool to have this huge library of sounds you can record with, jam with headphones etc.

If you're in a band that doesn't require a present guitar sound, it makes total sense. For example, if I was the guitar player for say, Taylor Swift, I'd use one, easily. Who cares if the guitar is muddled up in the mix in that style? It's not guitar driven anyway. Top 40 at the Sport Bar? uire why not. Again, the guitar sound is not very important. (not knocking these working bands btw, much respect for the cover guys, but just the focus is not on guitar tones).

But for original rock, metal? nuh-uh. :nope: It doesn't even beat solid state, let alone tube. Prong used to sound great with Valvestate 8100 heads. That's a $400 head. The Kemper took all the weight off of their sound at 5x times the price :freak:

The sad irony there is that literally the only genre I see with any sort of widespread use of modelers on the stage is in metal....

Everyone else is using tubes (including Taylor Swift's touring guitarist btw  )

I KNOW!!! That's the craziest part of this to me. The bands that should want to sound the heaviest are the ones doing this. And how many different sounds metal bands really need? 3 at the most?

Two. Cleans and distortion. Weird to me, being that I play nothing but metal and use a guitar that has 1 pickup and 1 knob. No one has ever complained about my tone lol

Last few years I’ve played in a doom band. It’s cleans with some reverb and delay and the most massive heaviest distortion I’ve ever used.

yeah pretty much. I can see someone wanting a lead tone too with more volume and a bit of delay. Other than that I don't know what else a modern metal band needs. certainly not 200 amp "models" and 100 "cabs".

Dude you were right there. Last year or so I’ve used that $1 Mesa York pack on stage lol

We’re all IEs and I’ve used the 2nd 1 of that pack for what seems like ever.

Fuck all the amp models and 100+ IRs.

I'll definitely be trying that liquid whatever profiling. I wonder if it can profile high gain amps with the gain actually cranked up without shitting the bed. :snax:

Fact VS. Fiction. For the most part only guitar weinies like us here on forums care that much about what a guitar players tone is like in the real world. I also love the idea of destroying 20 Kempers on tour than any of my ancient Marshal's, Fender's and whatever flavor of the week tube amp I may bring. The Kemper is possibly the best FLY rig ever. Until said time comes that I can no longer get tubes for my amps I will always record and such with tubes. But when that day ever comes I will be glad I profiled all my rigs and Kemper will still be supporting my artistic needs. :usa:

I mean, the real fact is for most of us, the only people that care about our tone, playing and music is us and a couple of friends and families here and there. The "audience" wouldn't care if we don't play at all. It's not like we have a huge fanbase or anything, this is mostly a passion for 99% of us. So I need to do what makes ME happy. If I am not happy with my tone because I am using some digital device through wedges, it kills part of the fun for me. Whether the audience cares or not is irrelevant, I want to have fun, live the dream, move air etc..
