I don't think they're prices are out of line at all. The Collector series, yes but those are luxury/collector items. Not really meant for players, it's an entirely different target demographic.
But as far as the US production line, you can buy a Les Paul Classic for $2400, which is not bad for an US made, setneck instrument. The Standard is 2900, not too bad either. It's not "cheap" but when compared with other US manufacturers that make setneck guitars, it's in the right ballpark.
The Custom Shop stuff is priced between $4k-10k and again, look at what ESP USA, Jackson, Fender Custom Shop charges. It's in the ballpark.
The fact is, it's expensive to make guitars in the US these days. But I am still happy to support US companies, even at a premium. You also get a product that's good for a lifetime. Worth it.
