I think I'm going to purchase a video game.
For the first time since I received my PS3 5 years ago (still haven't updated it), I will attempt to purchase a video game for my own enjoyment.
I want to go buy F1 2012 today. Looking for a racing game with F1 cars. Considered grab turismo, but that's a whole lotta shit to wade through.
Opinions?

Don't do it, man. All you think you're doing is buying one game. But you buy that one game, it sets you up for online updates, you get poking around while it updates, and before you know it you wake up to a credit card bill for $1,000 covered in your own drool and apathy to anything outside "the game."
That's how it works on XBox anyway.

It still works fine with no updates. I can still play the call of duties I was given no problem.

The learning curve to the F1 games is pretty steep. This was certainlyt true of F1 2010 & 2011. Its rewarding once you get the hang of it though.

GT5 >>>>>>>> Any F1 game. I would only get the F1 series if you're a major F1 nerd or if you don't care about realistic physics at all and just want to see a crude approximation of the F1 tracks.
Re: I think I'm going to purchase a video game.
If you're going to get an F1 game, you really want to be playing with a wheel.
That said, the Codemaster's F1 series has a lot of problems, both in terms of realism/accuracy issues and actual game bugs. I don't have 2012, but I have 2011 and 2010. Actually, I'd say I don't have 2012 because I have 2011 and 2010. I waited for a bit after 2012 came out, did some reading, and decided it was basically the same thing all over again. I still play 2011 every now and again, but basically with the fuel and tyre sim off and in clear weather, so it's pretty much like bashing out a full race worth of qualifying laps (and because the fuel/tyre sim is rubbish, and so is the weather system).
I wouldn't say the learning curve is that steep though. You can start off with assists like racing line, auto gearbox, ABS and traction control til you start getting the hang of it. The sheer speed and then braking power coming from other racing games might take a bit of getting used to, but if you've got the racing line on it'll tell you where the braking points are anyway.
If you want to drive an F1 car, I certainly wouldn't bother with GT5. The game's hardly the pinnacle of realism to begin with, but from memory the F1 car is one of the more retarded parts of GT5.

Re: I think I'm going to purchase a video game.
No, the RB2010/RB2011 concept cars are the most retarded part, and the most fun. But only if you've got a wheel. I picked up the Logitech Driving Force Pro on sale from tigerdirect, it works pretty well but you need a stand for it as well, or a desk that it can clamp onto.
I found the rally driving to be the most frustrating thing on GT5 TBH.

Re: I think I'm going to purchase a video game.
Well I did say one of the more retarded parts, not THE MOST retarded part. I'd agree that the RB concepts are more retarded.
I have a G27 and a folding stand thing. Not ideal, but I don't really have the space for anything better. The G27's not too bad, aside from the brake pedal, but the cost goes up considerably for anything better.
I'm hoping for the next gen consoles, CM can really start moving the F1 series forward. Coz at the moment they're basically updating the calendar, driver line up and liveries, and then making some slight tweaks to the driving taking it from one absurdity to a different one. And every year it's just full of bugs, they piss about for a bit sorting some of them out (all the while introducing new ones), and then they abandon it for the next game.
