Oh man, that sucks!

Not sure what he ever did in the band, but still sad since this might impact Martin Gore than anyone in the group. Maybe this will be an opportunity for Alan Wilder to come back.

Oh wow that does suck!! :(

I listened to so much of their music while growing up and even recently when I was doing the electronic duo. His playing has always been an inspiration to me as far as synths go.

It was Depeche Mode and New Order that taught me that all electronic music doesn't suck. Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion are two of the best electronic albums ever.

Yeah no kidding. They're masterpieces, regardless of style. Absolute classic albums.

Agreed 100%! I even purchased their remasters that came with a 5.1 mix on DVD-Audio. But those two albums were peak DM.

This hits me similarly to how something like losing one of The Beatles does. I don't really like The Beatles but I appreciate that there were things they did that played a big role in making music with new sounds, new approaches, get put into public consciousness and lead to new waves of musical expression.

I saw DM with my sister in Vegas in 2004. The sound, performance and show were all pro AF. To be honest the synths were my favorite part.

My 21 synth salute...
