Found fuel in the wife's oil pan

Post by _ej_ »

New Truck day

Image

I found the engine oil in my wife's escape was around 1.25qts overfilled and reeked of gas. There was also oil leaking from the turbo side intercooler pipe. Not really sure what caused it but at the very least the turbo was on the way out. The escape ran fine so I traded it towards this Ranger. Got 15K for it which is nuts.

nice ! Congrats ! that could have been a few things . A common thing is bad injector stuck open and flooding the gas , did you smell gas while driving ? Could be rings but probably not , did it smoke ? A little fuel in there is kinda normal I think . Anyhoo the Truck is bad ass !

No smell of gas when driving. Ran smooth with no CEL. only issue was it was slightly down on power. It's been less than 2 months since her oil change, that's a lot of fuel in a short time.

I'm wondering if the high pressure fuel pump or something had a leak? It's cam driven so that's a place fuel and oil are close.

Either way, it's the dealerships problem now.

This has both the sport and tow package, its 4x4 and has a locking rear diff. I'm still surprised my wife wanted it

Tonneau cover, and make sure you get a spray in bedliner. The drop in types are awful. Water/grime/etc gets stuck between the bed and liner and causes rust and corrosion.

The spray in type, by a reputable shop that preps the bed properly, will be far superior.

Other than that drive and enjoy it. By all accounts the new Rangers are great trucks right out of the box.

or go balls deep and turn it in to this:

Yeah cover is first on the list, we're ordering one tonight. I need to do some research into local outfits that do the spray in liners.

I'm still shocked at the torque you can get out of a 4 banger these days. 310 ft-lbs out of a 2.3L 4 cylinder. Wild.

Once its broken in I'm excited to see how it goes from a stand still and try some doughies.

Sara can't drive stick so no risk of losing the GTI. :cop:

I don't really enjoy driving trucks, I like being low and taking corners at speed. So if she wants to go back to a car she can trade the Ranger in and get her own GTI.

Yeah, and oil in the intercooler piping is a sign of a failing turbo which could also explain the lack of power.

Regardless it was bad news and now it's gone

Just curious, did you tell the dealership about the gas in the oil and get it cashed out under warranty or just trade it in straight across?

The Escape was past warranty or I would have just got it repaired and tried to get another year out of it.

I expected the dealership to ask about the obvious oil on the intake piping but they didn't so I didn't bring it up :idk:
