Saw Tesla Last Night

Post by IndyWS6 »

And they killed it. Frank and Dave played their asses off and the fill-in drummer (can't think of his name...) didn't miss a beat. The new songs sounded great and they played a bunch of the older stuff. Let's face it - Jeff was never a great singer and he's struggled at times, but he sounded really good last night. Frank was rocking the Hiwatt. Dave had a Friedman and a 5150 III, but it was hard to tell for sure what he was using. One of my favorite bands through the years still out grinding. :thu:

I thought Don Dokken does Aerosmith ripoff singer was regarded as good back in the day? The perfect Tesla concert for me would be Modern Day Cowboy. That's it

I wasn't dogging him. He was/is good, but like a lot of other aging rockers, that shit gets hard to pull off. He was definitely more on point last night than when I saw then in 2019, even if they did tune down a couple of older tunes to give him a break...

That's good to hear. Even tuning down a half step will save your voice considerably while not being super noticable to the listener unless they have perfect pitch sonar ears lol.

You don’t need perfect pitch to detect a half step.

I'll listen to it - love me some Tesla. No shame...

I probably didn't articulate it well in the OP. JK was great back in the day and fit that type of band perfectly. In recent years, he's struggled to stay at that level. I'm not criticizing - it's a tough thing to do when your into your 50's. I was just trying to point out that he sounded good this time around, and a lot better than just before COVID forced tour cancellations. Maybe the time off helped...

He's a hell of a lot better than current-day Vince Neil

FTR on my end; Tesla are all excellent musicians. I just felt tricked by them  They came out like Dokken with Modern Day Cowboy tune then went wayyyyyyyyy too bluesy and hippie Aerosmith for my tastes

They played a couple of new tunes - both had that raw edge and were "harder" than Modern Day Cowboy. Sounded pretty damn good :thu:

they are big into good amps , always have been . That back line looks amazing . Funny I don't see the typical Kemper rig so popular with the kids these days
