It's happening, bitc4es!!! FREEDOM!!!!

Post by Tortuga »

My soon to be ex-wife decided that the advice she's been getting from my serial divorcer monster-in-law is better than the EXTREMELY generous settlement offer I proposed. That offer would have left me pretty much starting over from scratch, which was preferable to ever having to deal with her again. Instead, she decided to serve me this week, and we may wind up going through a court mediator. Even at the most possible $$$ she can get from me in alimony and child support (for only one - the other is an adult now), there's no way she can sustain her living situation, unless she gets family backing (highly doubtful). Add to that - my legal fees are probably going to be really small.

The only outcome I can see for her is bankruptcy and maybe her living in a van down by the river. Dunno, and really wouldn't even walk across the street to piss on her if she were on fire.

Only outcome I can see for me is a decent chunk of change to pay off most (if not all) my debt, a modest monthly spend for the leech, and a real opportunity at helping my kids substantively with their college, putting money away for retirement, traveling, and retiring before I fucking die.

I'm happy as a pig in shit right now :arr:

Been exercising nearly every day. Weight is coming down again (WOOT!!!)

Found an acupuncturist that is doing miracles for my sciatica issues

The workshop project in the garage is on temporary hiatus, but plans are getting more and more real for doing at least a good side gig in there. It's gonna serve as a jam room, too - hoping to start getting some friends over on the reg for friday bbq & jams :rawk:

Thank the maker for CBD and weed. I'll drink to that :usa:

PMA is no longer MIA... I feel like an 18 year-old about to fuck the prom queen :rawk: :rawk: :rawk: :rawk: :rawk:

I've been there man. It was not easy since my son was very young and she pretty much left him with me alone and decided to go do heroin. So that sucked. But at the end of the day, it was worth it.
Glad things are looking up. It will feel even better when it's actually over.

congratulations!

but you are saying she would have been MUCH better off taking your offer than what she will end up with going through court?!?

I hope you are not underestimating her chances or attorney. You never know what can happen - things could go south quick.

anyway - hoping it comes out just like you are saying!!

A buddy of mine who runs his own on site Bobcat mechanic service company is a single dad of 2 young kids with an ex that disappeared to do the same. He’s rockin’ it though. Handles his business on set hours so he can get to the daycare on time everyday with no help from anyone. Takes ‘em fishing on the weekends too. I don’t envy those situations but it’s also really awesome to see people succeed when things get tough.

Well, I stuck it out for a LOT of years, hoping that my kids would have a better childhood with me there, rather than having to have the family torn apart at a young age. Took one for the team, y'know?

It's already worth it. My relationship with my boys is at an all-time high right now, and she keeps doing everything she can to wind up in that van down by the river. :D

Yes - she ABSOLUTELY would have been MUCH better off taking my offer. I haven't fully calculated everything out, but I'm sure I was looking at about 20% of everything versus her getting 80%. Even in the worst possible circumstance, they can't take EVERYTHING away from me (well, not legally), and can't force me to work to turn over all my paychecks to her. Fuck that. I'm in a pretty safe spot, and IDGAF. Danger combo, I am :shoot:

Rumpleforeskin wrote:Damn dude, that's a hell of a story. I'm glad you're happy, but it sounds like a stressful situation.

SO much stress behind me. I'm working with exercise, eating better, acupuncture, and cannabis. I'm driven to be unrecognizable (mentally and physically) by the end of the year.

My anniversary date entered old(er) age this past March. 30 years. Fucking hell, that's a big chunk of my life, especially considering how bad the last 10-15 have been.

I've been through it, man. It's hard. Keep your chin up dude! Love that you're setting personal health goals too. That'll work wonders on your emotional recovery. Diet and exercise are super good for the mind.

That said, remember everything you post here will still be here in the future. There might come a day that you look back on a thread like this and cringe a little at the overshare. Just looking out for ya dude.

It sounds more to me like she'll never accept a settlement and you're going to be paying lawyers for years to come, eating into whatever you would have gained from taking it to lawyers.

a guy i work with offered his ex a generous settlement they both agreed to, she accepted it, then later took him to court and got even more.

probably better off that it will be settled in court so she can't double-dip later on ...
