Utah man encounters cougar for 6 minutes

That's some scary shit, he was running on a trail about 20 minutes from my house and encountered some cougar cubs, and then their maternal unit showed up to tell him to move along, and she didn't do it nicely.

I would have put that cat in a Cobra Clutch. Then I would pile drive it into the canvass.

Right?! WTF, they’re all over that trail.

This is why I don’t hike/run in the mountains without at least a .380; he could have shot at the ground in front of it and scared it off 10 seconds into the encounter.

Not really afraid of anything up there except big cats; having house cats it’s a constant amazement to me how perfect they are as hunters. If that thing would have rushed him he’d be dead.

no shit man.... a dog that size I'd take my chances.... but a cat that big I know i'd be useless.... my little cat makes me bleed on a regular basis, a cougar would kill you without breaking a sweat

Yeah I carry a pellet gun when I go hiking. Don't want to shoot and kill anything when I'm on their territory but you gotta have something to scare them away.

Here we don't have issues with mountain lions but I have black bears in my backyard at least once a week during the warm months so I keep the bb gun on me when I'm doing yard work.

He's lucky he saw her , she could have just pounced and he'd be dinner . I have a friend that used to do bear tours and all he carried was a air horn . That would send even the biggest bear turning tail and leaving him alone . I bet cats would hate those too .

One of the canyons up east of Provo, about 20 minutes south of SLC. I live in the Draper area, about 15 minutes north of there.

When I moved here from Detroit back in ‘90, started working at a restaurant and made friends with some of the guys, they were always camping and hiking up in the canyons and being from an urban area I didn’t know anything about it. They asked me to go a bunch of times and I always begged off until maybe two years after I moved.

First time we went we dropped a bunch of acid and found some cougar prints; I was fuckin shocked that this stuff was this close to us. Couple of the guys were hunters and showed me bear tracks/spoor etc and I was blown away that we were camping surrounded by all this shit that could kill us in a heartbeat.

Then they showed me that they were all carrying guns lol

Numerous times up there camping and hiking over the last 30 years, seen everything. Bears, wolves, huge fuckin snakes, cougars.

People that live here and don’t spend time in the mountains don’t even realize.

Guy did good by not bending over and picking up a rock. That cat would have been on him before he was upright. Bending over could show aggression. We always carry bear spray when we hike out west. Around her I carry a 9mm because of squirrels

Yeah I think she was just trying to be seen to scare him away from her cubs.
If she was in true hunt/kill mode it would have ambushed him and he wouldn't even see it coming.

I remember having an encounter with a cougar when I was a much younger Diddlybo. Unfortunately for me, it lasted no where near 6 minutes. :(

We were around Bryce Canyon, Arches, Moab, etc. Since we flew there one thing that had occurred to me that I didn't have anything for protection in case we needed it. We did several hikes off the beaten path and the only wildlife we saw were longhorn rams.

We also saw deer all over the place in parks and numerous times in the middle of nowhere driving between places. And also bison just outside of the Grand Canyon. The kids loved it!

We must have been in that area at the wrong time for animal life. Now, Yellowstone was full of animals. Love it

That was a hell of a lot better than a lot of movies I've seen lately!!
The script was hilarious!
The scenery was astonishly beautiful!
No animals were harmed!
