Man, that's a haul!!!!

My grandfather took me mackerel fishing when I was 8 years old.
The boat went a few miles out, off Freeport, Long Island. Our fishing poles had several hooks, each hook had a 1" red plastic tube as bait.
Every time we dropped the line, we pulled up 3 or 4 fish.
We went home with 45 mackerel... I thought that was a lot!

That looks like bait to me.

It is. Went over to the coast for the first time since spring. Getting ready for some fall/winter fishing and the main goal was to load up on some bait. This pull yielded 16 bags of 8 mullet each for my freezer. The way I like to fish frozen mullet, each fish will equal two baits. I cut the head and tail off and then cut the remaining piece into 2 pieces. Works great for redfish and plenty of other species as well.

Do you ever do smoked mullet? Tried that once in St Pete. Wasn't really a fan.

I've had some smoked mullet dip that was pretty good. Never had actual smoked mullet. Some people say it's fantastic but I get the sense that it's not for everyone and probably varies wildly depending on preparation. As soon as I can catch some of the bigger ones (1-2 lbs each) I plan on making some. One school of bigger ones came by my spot yesterday and missed them with the net.

Very true! Miami has terrible Mexican food.

But that doesn’t explain why the white American peoples there can’t make them right.

Maybe it’s a West Coast Mexican/American thing. I’ve had a lot of really good fish tacos.

Yeah the Southwest is undefeated for Mexican food.

Same for the Northeast for Italian/pizza.

Best fish tacos ever...

Same here. I did have fish lasagna once. It was fucking terrible.

Agreed... Unfortunately, where I live, most of the "Southwest" style restaurants are pretty generic. Some are good, but I haven't found a great one. Hell, it's hard to get good Fish & Chips...
