Prayer / mojo request

Post by Tortuga »

Heya, my GABro friends...

Tonight, we got the devastating news that our drummer, who has become a good friend over the past 2 years that I've known him, passed away tonight. He was very young (early 30s) and leaves behind an even younger wife who has seen her life turn completely upside down.

We only got the news Sunday morning at Church that he was in critical condition, and they've been working since that point trying to get him stabilized enough to deal with the tumor that had only been discovered a couple weeks before. We were very hopeful, as there was notes of improvement coming from the family over the past 2 days, but then we got the call and were told that he's gone.

I am shocked, saddened to the core, devastated, and pissed that someone who was incredibly positive, healthy, and young could have this happen so suddenly.

If you've got it in you, please say a prayer for Matt, his wife, and their families.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the kind words and support.

Matt's wife has been sharing pictures on FB, and the outpouring of support has been pretty amazing to see. Even got to chat with her for a minute last night. Her strength and wisdom is phenomenal.

Matt didn't want a funeral, so we're going to have a "celebration of life" party for him next Saturday.

And our band is supposed to have rehearsal tomorrow night and perform on Sunday. That's going to be tough.

I get that, but it's kind of hard for a lot of us who didn't get to say goodbye or even see him while this was going down.

Funerals (imo) are about closure - it's as much for the living (if not more) than the deceased. Viewings are the hardest to take, but when my wife's little brother passed away at age 15, it was much easier for me to process that he was really gone when I saw his lifeless body. Same for my other drummer friend that passed away at 46. As it is, it's so hard to be able to accept that someone that young is actually gone - without actually seeing him, I'm feeling like it's going to be harder to deal with.

...totally self-centered thinking, but I'd bet it's a pretty universal feeling.

...and, IB4 bad Spinal Tap joke. I wouldn't want to be a drummer in my band, either :D At least I can report that the drummer from my college band is still alive and kickin' :thu:
