Mac OS is sooo much better than Windows.
So background:
A couple of months ago, I decided I needed a windows machine. It would help me to learn windows 10 for work (in depth not just front end) and I thought I would get a good laptop I can use for photo editing some gaming and other things. So after hunting around I went for a Dell XPS15 so no slouch (i7 8th gen, 16gb ram and a gforce 1050ti GPU).
it works well the hardware is ace, but windows... it just sucks. a few years ago I switched to macs and I have a late 2015 iMac and a easy 2015 MacBook pro i use for music and portable work. and they just run so well, no multiple clicks setting things up all the time, it just works.
I am going to keep the dell is pretty good I can play PUBG on it, edit photo's in affinity pro and microsoft office is much better on it of course, but even though Macs are so over priced they just seem to work so much better.
Whats the general opinion out there?

In all seriousness... I'm right there with ya... we use Windows 7 enterprise at work (biggest federal .gov system in the nation pretty much) but just switched over to Windows 10 Friday. So far it's still a piece of shit compared to my 6 year old Macbook Pro.

i have no issue with windows. i do however have issue with proprietary tech, spurious updates, and overpriced hardware.
so guess that rules apple out for me.

Windows 10 has been out for 3 years now, are you really going to play stupid and act like a computer cuck? Good luck with all that since Windows 10 isn't going away and MacOS is stuck with apples horrible computer engineers.
Im not sure you actually want advice or want to bitch about Windows, but lets assume you want actual advice.

Now ALL THAT HORRIBLE WINDOWS 10 start menu works like Windows 7 and isn't that what you meant in the first place?

I was thinking about getting an xps 15, working out OK for you otherwise? I'll probably put together a desktop to save some money that laptop looks pretty cool.

I work for a bank they often update the software later to make sure they can make the add ons secure.
Windows still sucks it’s slow you have to click so many extra things to get anything to work.
Mac OS is far superior.

It’s a cool laptop for sure. I went for the for 1080p non touchscreen as I don’t feel the need for the 4K display.
But for a windows laptop it works very well, it’s quite unless underload (games etc).
Though I did undervolt the cpu to stop it throttleling.
Decently a good machine and I like that you get a fingerprint scanner with it.

Things like the Imac 5k actually work out cheaper when you take the screen into account. But agree about the MacBooks, but I will pay the extra 800 not use shitty windows

My first gen Surface Pro runs Windows 10 perfectly. Like, I haven't had a single issue with it.
I can understand not liking the interface
Every time I have to use Mac OS it takes me forever to figure out how to do what I need to do. All depends on what you're used to

Re: Mac OS is sooo much better than Windows.
A couple things from a Mac user that was forced to switch to a Windows machine.
- I still use Mac at home, but only for recording and pronz
- Had to switch at work, because Apple refuses to cater to the world of 3D GPU rendering with their silly use of useless (ATI) GPU cards.
- Never used Windows in my life until i got this machine two years ago. I went in completely cold. Have always been a Mac guy since 1985
- Both OS's are fine. Windows is fine. The applications they run are the same. Both have their annoyances and strong points.
- Windows explorer does suck though for the graphic artist. Mac Finder lets me preview pretty much anything and everything. Even 3D files and other obscure shit within the Finder itself. For Windows, i had to install Seer to do this and it still wont see simple things like AI files.
- The same applications run the same way on both OS's, so who really gives a fuck.
- Mac OS is based off UNIX... not Linux
- Apple's "high cost" issue is really only an issue on the low end of things. On the higher end of things, they PC and Mac are roughly the same. My PC at work cost $6k and it's surrounded by two other PC's that were $11k each (GPU render machines). My $6K working machine is roughly equivalent to Apples medium powered iMac Pro (which is a very high end machine), but has GPU cards that actually do something. Both machines are about the same price.
- Apple plan's on another Pro Tower this or next year. This will open my world back up to Mac since i'll be able to slap Nvidia cards in it (which MacOS supports directly with no drivers). They were stupid with the trash can and they know it. We have about a dozen trash cans in my department and they solid machines, but the concept is dumb and they have useless GPU's that you can't switch out. Apple's old towers were just PC's with parts that could be switched out with PC parts.
- You can run Windows natively on any Mac. Best of both worlds. Any distribution of Linux too.
TL;DR: Not much difference. Mac OS is prettier. The cost thing is an issue only if you buy cheap shit to begin with. Unix... not Linux. Mac's are fancy PC's with fancy PC parts. Soon the new promised pro tower will eliminate some, if not all of that proprietary stuff and also lets hope the ATI GPU cards go away.

The hysteria and angst regarding OS's has almost reached Chevy / Ford / Mopar levels.

We have both here.....couple Mac laptops and an iMac, plus we all have iPhones; as far as a phone and pocket computer it just does what I need it to do.
I use Windows for everything though; work, recording etc...I'm used to it and my workflow is fast as fuck. I go to do something on one of the other computers and shit takes forEVVVVVVVVVER cause I'm clueless on how to make them do anything.

I am actually more used to windows, the dell runs extremely well, it just windows has been designed to do many things so its got to the point its to overcomplicated for its own good.
Plus this post was very Rum fuelled, I am not that bothered.
But it gets more views than if I posted a clips

That depends on how you define low end. While Windows and Mac machines may be similar at $6K, you can build a hell of a windows machine for 1/3 of that price with just a little basic research.
High end Windows starts a lot lower than high end Mac, IMHO. At least for consumer level machines. Professional machines might be different, depending on the field you work at..

Re: Mac OS is sooo much better than Windows.
I have a 2013 Fusion Drive iMac that I use strictly for recording and going online to download plugins.
If I stop using it for too long, it bugs the shit out of me because, I can never remember if the Opt key or the Control key does what the Alt key does on PC!!!
I do everything else on my PC.... work, internet, artwork.
I had a Gateway PC that was absolutely glitchless and worked better than any Dell or HP that I owned or used at work. I gave it to my Mom to use for email, once MS stopped supporting XP.
One thing I noticed is that, my iMac with OS 10.8.5 Mountain Lion still works fine... even though they're going to release 12 soon.
My Dell, with Windows 7, didn't like the upgrade to Windows 10 and is glitchy as fook.
