Carnivore diet people check in (are there any?)
I've been thin as fuck my whole life. Around 140lbs at 6' The running joke is I need to eat a cheeseburger.. of course I eat a SHIT load of food and never gain weight. Fun. I'm 43 years old and about 8 years ago my digestion.. changed. Getting old I'm sure. About a week ago I was basically eating anything. Whatever I felt like which was more or less 'healthy' whatever during the day and at night I snacked and snacked. I have a sweet tooth and man, at night I would eat anything. Little Debbie cakes, waffles, cookies, pies, candies, whatever.. And better stuff too but I was a mess. Waking up with a stomach ache in the middle of the night. Bloated. All that crap. Still never gain weight.
Thing is I have a small frame (french) and so I can't physically eat a lot of food without turning into a unhappy pear. At this point I've tried a lot of ways to gain weight. Even eating mass gain protein shakes.. whatever. Nothing works. I do work out and run in the moutains a lot. I'm sure this keeps me thinish but still, I need to gain more weight.
So I was watching the Jordan Peterson podcast with Joe Rogan and happen to notice he is a carnivore and eats mostly beef all the time. Claims it helps with his life long depression and digestion issues. Cool! So i figured, why not try it.
I'm about a week in the diet. I eat anything meat and eggs. No sugar. No fruits. No veggies. As this goes further It occurs to me I'm going to have to get pretty creative in terms of recipes to keep it fresh. In any case, I am up 5lbs (I have NEVER been able to gain 5lbs) in one week and odd other stuff has been happening. I can staste better (wtf). Could be placebo but I swear I can smell stuff I haven't in years. Also I went for a 9 mile barefoot run at 11k feet and felt like I was freakin superman. Today I had prime rib, ground beef patties, and 5 eggs with sausage (and hotsauce).
There really has got to be something to this diet.

I eat meat everyday - but also fruit and vegetables. Aren't there with a few nutrients you won't be getting? How is that addressed?
BTW - I loathe vegans/vegetarians.
And I have hardly any sweet tooth.

Wait, along with having multiple degrees in basket weaving, Jordan Peterson is also a nutritionist?

Good for you. Which nutrients are you talking about? According to the science meat has everything a person needs for a complete diet.

Nope I just found it interesting it helped him so much. He doesn't claim any health benefits except for himself.

I'm asking - there has to be something in fruits and vegetables that aren't in meat - vitamins A, C, K, minerals, fiber, etc......
We don't have the teeth of carnivores.
Re: Carnivore diet people check in (are there any?)
Nope. Meat has it all. We have dual duty teeth. Omni and Carni.

Redeyes, I’m curious. Are you type o blood?
If so, Beef is medicinal for you.
I’m type A positive, and I’ve realized beef plus beer makes me feel like absolute shit now that I’m 36 yo. I can drink red wine and coffee all day and feel like million bucks though.
Look up dr d’adamo and his research on blood type and diet.

Re: Carnivore diet people check in (are there any?)
Dude you’ve been reading some stupid biased shit if you think meat has all the nutrition you need.
Have you seen Shawn bakers labs?
Not something I’d want to emulate.
Fun at how the carnivore diet, juice cleanses, vegan diets, ketogenic, and all other strict diets people report exactly what you are.
Wonder why?
If you really want to do this try adding foods back in one at a time. You’re probably just in ketosis for the first time in your life. Things feels different when you’re in ketosis.
So far I’ve yet to see any compelling evidence other than anecdotes of people who don’t seem to understand nutrition or are usually pretty shy about getting blood work let alone sharing it.

You've pretty much described the Atkins diet. When I was on it, no sugar, no dairy, no vegs, no carbs. It works because no carbs has your body burning fat cells for energy. Once you go off of it, its like a slingshot, you gain back the weight and then some. I have always had a weight problem. ( I used to grab bear claws with both hands and get them stuck in this region here!) and sugar has always been my addiction. I don't drink nor smoke, but sugar is a bitch to try to give up.
Some guys like a challenge. Not me.

Re: Carnivore diet people check in (are there any?)
Just a guess, but going on 9 mile runs is probably not very conducive for weight gain

I just don't get it - you want to not eat meat, fine - but I don't need to hear about it.
I don't eat much fish (love some shellfish though) - but I don't go around making sure people know that, or come up with some name to make it a 'thing'.

Lol. This is quite typical response. I posted some evidence, you posted not much. I don't really thing anyone understands nutrition since the human body is incredibly complex. Also, people respond differently to foods, so there is no one size fits all diet. Regardless, I am not going to change what Im doing. In fact Im doubling down. More meat, more often.

I eat almost 200g of protein through the day and make sure there's a steady stream of veggies going with it otherwise throwing a shit is like shoving an 80 pound kettle bell through a god damn keyhole.

LOLHAHA!! Yes I'm filling my body with shit. Seriously dude, I can tell when i'm having constipation problems and right now I feel like a light fluffy flower.

There is one odd thing, I am definitely pooping less than I am taking in. The theory goes, you can absorb more nutrients from meat than any other food, therefor you expel less. Works for me. Like one dude said, you don't get a fucking award for shitting a lot.

Looks like you missed my point.
The reason you feel better is because of something specific you removed from your diet. Same reason all those other diets I mentioned work for different people.
Looks like you didn’t look at Shawn’s blood work. Dude has low t and is prediabetic despite no carbs. Not to mention the guy literally had his medical license revoked recently for incompetence.
https://www.stopbeingconfusedabouthealt ... ined-full/
This guy is the poster boy for this diet right now like it or not.
As for getting all your nutrition how about vitamins C, E folate, or fiber (you know the thing that keeps your guys healthy).
https://www.popsci.com/carnivore-all-meat-diet#page-2
You posted anecdotes, not evidence.
Have you ever tried a ketogenic diet? This may give you the same benefits and negate the negatives.
But hey, don’t let me stop you from becoming as dogmatic as a vegan.

that's the one thing i loved about paleo: 1 dump per day and i only wiped for assurance.
i don't know if it is individual body/blood type or what but when i've gone low carb for a while and then, even slowly, start introducing carbs again, i put on weight fast. it is like low carb makes me super insulin sensitive and then go eat a serving of brown rice and blow up.

I have the exact opposite problem. I can gain 10lbs in a week if I am not extremely careful. So I am probably not the best candidate for this diet.
For me, the only thing that really worked was watching my calories intake and exercising more. I lost almost 100lbs in 2 years doing that.
But again, that's the opposite of your situation. I really wish I could eat anything I want and not gain weight. That would be awesome

Congratulations! You literally found the key to success for weight loss instead of getting suckered into trendy diets. Science has repeatedly proven that it doesn't matter which eating style you follow, at the end of the day it's calories in/calories out. Keto, intermittent fasting, simply cutting your calories back, they all work the same for weight loss when calories are equated. The problem is fitness is a multi-billion dollar industry full of people who will tell you anything if that means they can get you to hand over your cash.
Re: Carnivore diet people check in (are there any?)
I burn 1500-2000 calories working out, running. I HAVE to pack more calories into myself if I intend to gain. Veggies and fruit ain't going to do shit.
Also it turns blood type is O+ if anyone cares. I dunno what that might mean.

Re: Carnivore diet people check in (are there any?)
Macros are king, you wanna gain muscle, put some protein down range and make sure to work those muscles. Bro-scientists say 1g of protein per pound of body weight, but the competitive body builders I have spoken to have suggested about 1g protein per KILO of body weight. If that doesnt make much difference in the first month I would try 1g protein per pound of body mass the next month and see.
Just make sure to get those protein from non-shitty foods, try not to use protein supplements. Basically stick to chicken, fish and red meats.
Dont be afraid of fats, and the rest is carbs. Not sure what you caloric intake/output is, but you dont want a deficit if you are to put on some muscle mass. I used the under armor app for a while and that gave me a good idea of what portions look like.
