Favorite local places?
It doesn't matter, nobody but Chris would even know what I'm talking about anyway
Otherwise,
Mellow Mushroom, Donatos, Papa John's. You know, the usual.
Domino's has actually done well at not sucking these days too.

My favorite place doesn't even have a name. It just says pizza on the front.

Mellow Mushroom?
Around here I usually get Casey's pizza. Yeah, they're a convience store chain, but their pizza is decent. I'll papa johns or domino's otherwise. If I'm in a thin crust mood monical's is pretty good.
Pretty much anything besides Pizza Hut. I'll eat it if its free, but I've given up trying it if I'm paying.

Some guys like a challenge. Not me.
Re: Your favourite pizza place
Lately? The cheap place up the street. $6 for a large pizza that I drop on the kids before date night with the ladies.
Re: Your favourite pizza place
Homemade, by default. Austin doesn't do pizza. I mean, there are a couple places that aren't bad, but the best pies in town are still just alright. We have absolutely bangin' food in a variety of styles; we'll school your ass in BBQ, Mexican, sushi, a variety of fusions, but not so much in the pizza department.
Misplaced priorities and squandered opportunities.

You dont like Mangia?
Its been years since I have eaten there, but i obviously remember fondly. Maybe it is not as good as my memory suggests.

Re: Your favourite pizza place
I dunno. I had it, and it was alright. I mean, it wasn't a bad pie, but it's just on par with any number of small pizza joints I've eaten at (in like, ~25-30 states) that takes any amount of pride in their food. Mangia and Homeslice are two of the "best" places here, but neither of them rates much higher than "not Pizza Hut." But, then again, that's me.

Re: Your favourite pizza place
I had no idea until recently that there were multiple Mellow Mushrooms...the one I went to in Denver looked like a bar that just happened to serve pizza, and I wouldn't have imagined it to be a chain...but then one of my friends moved to South Carolina and started working at one there. The pepperoni and jalapeño pizza I had was pretty awesome. I had some pretty damn good pizza in Brooklyn (I forget the name of the place, but it had some charm. Ninja Turtles posters on the wall, "T.HANKS" on the trash with a picture of Tom Hanks, calling the ATM a "Bill dispenser" with a $5 bill with Bill Murray drawn on it)
But the best pizza I can remember I had out in Connecticut...it was near some biker bar we played, I can't for the life of me remember the name of it (Or the bar, or even the town we played in) There's some awesome ones around here...one a couple of towns over from me has ridiculous calzones.
Chain-wise, I usually go for Papa Gino's. Failing that, I usually settle for Papa John's. I'd be okay with Pizza Hut if only for the sake of the stuffed crust pizza, but the only times I ever end up going to Pizza Hut the other people I'm with hate the stuffed crust.

Re: Your favourite pizza place
I forgot about Caseys Convenience store pizzas. Those are good, considering they're convemience store food. Ive ate many slices of Casey while in Southern Illinois. They've got Caseys everywhere over there.

WHAT?
I feel for you, son. I'm looking at their location map, and looks like their reach JUST misses Chicago.

It is 100% NOT a typical New-York style pizza, which is usually what I go for. There are a few snowbirds around here that moved south and opened pizza joints. They're all really good. But Mellow Mushroom is an artsy-hippy themed place, lots of out of the ordinary topping combinations, and simply amazing dough. The crust is honestly the best part of their pizza.
Re: Your favourite pizza place
Luna Pizza: Good pizza and wings. Just a classic kind of pizza joint and they do have a pretty good white pizza.
Brother's Pizza: Classic New York style pizza and they actually know how to make good Buffalo wings. Plus, they give you a good count. Order 50 wings and you probably get closer to 60.
That said, I'm on a huge homemade calzone kick right now.
