New Possible Job Soon :excited:

Post by Nateispro »

So i'm 20 and i've been working at the same movie theatre for 2 years this month. It was a decent starter job but it's more than served it's purpose. It's a living hell now, i've outlived most of the other employee's and even a few of the managers, I randomly decided to throw in an application at a local credit union last week and they called and set up a phone interview for earlier today. I think i did pretty damn good for my first phone interview and the managers at the credit union are people i've known since i was 8 or 10. Well after the phone interview she said i should definitly expect a phone call from one of the managers to set up a face to face interview :) i'm super excited because i could take all of the knowledge from working as a teller/loan officer and get a job at almost any bank anywhere... Plus it's actually a career i wouldn't mind having.

congrats!
It's not a great job - but it sure has more potential than where you are now.

Luckily it's not a massive cooperate bank, it's just a small credit union so it's not as bad as others, i have friends of friends who work there and really love it. But anything is a massive step up from a theatre and at least this has potential to work into something more

That's my plan, I can usually be a pretty shinning employee if given the chance or it's something i truly enjoy, i can't stand school so college has always been a no go for me :idk: But with this company they're willing to train me on there dime which is great and it gives me all the know who to move on to bigger companies if i see it fit. It seems like a great place to start and get all of the basics down. Plus i get to dress up fancy every day which is always funny for me

If you went as your avatar, I'm sure you'd get the job outright.

Hopefully everything gets ironed out and you get it! A friend who I graduated with is still stuck working at a movie theater and seems dead inside. Luckily, the economy is really turning around.

I've been at the movie theatres for 2 years and i've hated every day of it for the last year and a half, i was only planning on being there 6 months but i could never find a new job. A movie theatre is horrible to work at, i'd rate it below fast food :idk:

That's what I'd like to do, I always thought that a regular college was a waste of time. Now trade or tech's schools or a job that trains you site, those are worth while, and plus with this bank job, they'd give me more than enough training to move up in the field

College is definitely not a waste of time, depending on what you're going for. A liberal arts degree, or some other such nonsense? Sure, it's a waste of time and money. But for accounting, or IT work, it's a must have.

The thing about degrees is, they get you in the door...They kickstart your career...Once you get that first job with the degree, moving up is all about experience. But for a lot of jobs, you HAVE to have the degree to get started.

So, my advice is to think long and hard about what you want to do, and then determine if you need a degree to do it. If you are going up against other candidates with a degree, you will go to the back of the resume pile most likely, unless your experience is EXACTLY what they are looking for.

Just some advice from what I've experienced man! BEst of luck either way!

Oh i certainly wasn't saying or meaning that college is a waste of time for everyone!!! it just never worked for me (school in general) I know college can really help get your foot in the door but the college atmosphere was never right for me, i'm too hands on, i like jumping in and learning by doing it. I'd much rather start off at the bottom and learn and work my ways up to a great career instead of going to school and having to take a bunch of student loans and spent 4-6 years before even getting a good job. That's just my 2 cents on it though!

ALSO!!!

Had my in person interview yesterday, i think it went great!! they had no questions prepared, all of the questions were based of my responses, the only question they had ready when i walked in was "tell us about yourself" and it just went on from there, the interview ended up lasting an hour and forty-five minutes! They'll let me know by next Wednesday if i got the job or not, fingers crossed
