IIRC his nickname was actually "The Thumb."

I have been listening to the shit out of Wes lately. Actually started a thread about him last month. This live album is incredible and its basically Miles rhythm section from Kind of Blue:

doh! guess I missed that thread. 'smokin at the half note' is a widely influential album no doubt....I have that one in my collection.

was listening to some 'deathcore' on youtube and by chance that '1965' vid was in the 'play next' list.

hadn't seen that one and the camera work was excellent imo...thought it would be a worthy share. he's so good man.

Wes Montgomery is the only jazz guitarist I enjoy. His riffs are interesting - nothing like the typical scale runs used by the majority of jazz guitarists.

Wess ROCKS! :rawk:

I feel like Wes Montgomery and Grant Green play their guitars like saxophones. The phrasing and the approach is very similar.

Anyway - Brian, check out Grant Green. You can thank me later!

I have to say, that was the best 10 minutes and 15 seconds that I've spent in a long time!!!
At about the two minute mark, I order the CD on Amazon. They really were flowing when they recorded that album.
Brilliant sax player. Cool organ in the background... hope there's an organ solo on the album.
My 90 minute drive, each way to/from work, gives me plenty of time to listen to music and I'm really looking forward to this one.
I think you guys may have just turned me on to my new favorite jazz musician! :hi5:
