Saw Modest Mouse and Brand New last weekend

Post by _ej_ »

Disclaimer: I am 100% a Brand New fanboi.

They slayed. It one of the best shows I've been too. Band was super tight, tones were fantastic and the vocals were excellent. The bulk of the crowd was there to see Brand New so the energy was insane. Everyone was singing along. They played some deep cuts that I didn't expect to hear along with my favorite song.

Modest Mouse also really impressed me. They had a 9 or 10 piece band so it was a really lush and layered sound. As far as I can tell there were no backing tracks or anything. Band was very tight. Vocals were on point. I like them a lot more after seeing them.

I often work in coffee shops when doing a lot of writing.

About a month ago while prepping for a huge presentation I was in a coffee shop when this pretty catchy tune was playing. So catchy I asked the server about it. She had to dig thru here system but finally anted up "The ground walks with time in a box" -- by modest mouse.

Modest who?

Cool beans, bought it immediately. Dig it.

I saw them a couple weeks ago when the played Pittsburgh. They killed it that night too. I always love when they have the bright yellow lights behind them (they had nothing but that the last time I saw them), and the LED screens were a huge plus. They're one of the best live bands I've ever seen

Isaac from Modest Mouse has a Fender Super Six modded by Bryan Sours out of Portland, OR. I think it sounds fantastic live.

Wow - the 9 piece band thing threw me - I had to look up Modest Mouse to realize this thread was not about Deadmau5.....

I posted a thread on that song when it came out, got completely GABpanned. One of my favorite recent tunes for sure.

Loved what Marr brought to the group, and even though he no longer plays with them, their catchy rhythms show he had a lasting effect.

Oh, glad you had fun, EJ!!!

Wouldn't surprise me. I dig it (listened to it after reading this thread) -- it makes me tap my foot involuntarily -- that can't be bad.

Then again I fucking love kimchi sashimi so wat do I know. :o

Deja is cool but Daisy is my jam. They played a decent amount of Deja but the bulk of the set was off The Devil and God. They plated Noro which is one of my favorite songs so I was very happy.

This was the setlist:
Sink
Gasoline
Millstone
Noro
Tautou
Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades
Okay I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't
Brothers
Degausser
Limousine
At the Bottom
Jesus
Luca
I Am a Nightmare
Sowing Season

Encore:
Play Crack the Sky
The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows
You Won't Know
