scrap track, tone tasting, drum programming CLIP

Post by Ostinato Rubato »

Been re-working a piece and improving some of the elements on what will be the official demo version. New mic sounds, new basslines, new drum programming. This is a scrap track me and Fretless are bouncing back and forth sharing ideas on. Hommie wanted me to post it up, here it is:

Nice fellas! Sounds really good. Very clear and each instrument is well defined. Some nice guitar tone too. Drums sound nice and full and the bass sits nicely. Great playing both of you. Interesting change up to the rasta sounds towards the end. Looking forward to hearing what this sounds like with vocals.

Vocals and leads is what it mainly needs, but I plan to redo all the guitar tracks too. Those were quick scrap tracks from the last time I was doing the new mic test, all cut and pasted, and with the rasta riff at the end taken from the previous version all hashed together

Overall the guitars just need a pinch more gain to my ears without getting too far past edge of breakup tone. But it's coming along... again :loon:

Thanks Fellas , what I really like is the less is more approach , it's tough to get Mike to do this because he likes the overdubs :p also I literally came up with a new bassline as I was tracking and we will work out the kinks in jammy but I'm dig'in the direction of this and love the more raw less is more thing so I was hoping it would influence Mike by letting you guys hear it as is . Also I was sooooooooooooo stoned when tracking whooooooooooo :irish:

Sounds cool! I like the minimalist approach but on some of the parts, like at about the 1:00 mark, make sure to thicken those guitars a little. Pack some "oomph" in that bitch.

I do plan on getting a little more punch and thickness into some parts and will only do so if it doesn't take away from the open slightly jangly edge of breakup sound. My tones are usually a little darker and thicker sounding and I've been trying to put a little air in my hair lately. But I agree it's missing a pinch of oomph. Just a pinch.

Sounds pretty great as is. To add thickness maybe a third track down the middle with a little more gain low in the mix.

Woah. Old thread. This whole song has gotten reworked with new drums and guitar tracks. The rhythm has changed in the guitars and the chorus is significantly heavier. Full song should be done in next week or so.

No this clip is my Laney IRT studio. It's what I use at home for recording. I take the VH100R to the jams and the couple gigs I had a while ago.

I absolutely love that VH100R. That tube issue it was having was a preamp tube socket that needed the contacts to be tightened. That was it. $75 bucks at the tech and been working flawless ever since. :thu:

Anyway cool to see you around GAB man. Thanks for the amp deal. It's my baby.
