Best Lamb Of God Album?

Post by Anomaly »

I tend to lean towards "As The Palaces Burn" or Ashes Of The Wake"... as they are both full of great riffage front to back, but I prefer the production of "Ashes..." a bit. Guitar tones might be a bit better on ATPB though, very raw and thrashy "Wrath' Is great too but it suffers from being mastered too loud and being overly compressed almost to the point of "Death Magnetic" levels. Makes it hard to listen to at times. "Set To Fail" is a classic song though. "Sturm Und Drang" is a great comback as well... much better than Resoliution. 512 is a classic song as well as "Embers" with Chino.

ATPB for me. I liked each subsequent album less and less. Haven't bothered with the last one.

Damn tough poll. I missed it and cannot vote but I will just post.

I'm like most people with thinking each album was less appealing.

I can say Ashes of the wake and As the Palaces Burn are definitely the top two. It is hard to pick one but I guess I will go with Ashes of the wake. Less raw but more refined and mature and IMO right before they started the downward spiral.

There's good stuff on all of them, though I am like others in that I don't pay as much attention to them anymore. Sturm Und Drang had some good stuff but I did not enjoy Randy's attempts at clean vox. As The Palaces Burn was probably my favorite and this doc was pretty killer:

Cool, I may have to watch that documentary.

Funny thing though this poll made me go look them up. I bought Sacrament and was really disappointed. I guess after listening to it a bunch and ignoring the previous albums it was ok but that is when I got of stopped being into them. For a while they were my #1 go to.

The cd after Sacrament I just completely stopped listening to them and did not like the direction they were heading.

I am actually listening to Sturm und drang for the first time right now. Can't make an opinion yet, it opened with a blast beat which had me excited but then the song kind of went back to yeah, current LOG whatever.

Will give it a fair listen though.

0 votes for Sacrament??????!!! I have that album on vinyl, framed and hanging on my bedroom wall. I also own the deluxe version on cd. That album changed my life practically, the songwriting, the production. IMO, its possibly the bet metal album of ALL TIME, let alone in the LoG catalog.

I didn't like the clean vox at first either, but it has grown on me. Overall, i think the last album was a great comeback. They had to do something different and I think they succeeded with the addition of the clean vocals. They needed change, and I expect even more change with the next album.

I actually think if they came up with some better patterns; the clean vox would be a good thing. I just thought the vocal lines they came up with were very bland. His tone was pretty solid though. I think they are so used to writing whacked out, unmelodic riffage (well, compared to most normal rock music) that it will take some more musical experimentation on their part to come up with a better fit for that style of singing within their band. I am curious to hear some more on the next album.
