Mic comparison, SM57 on the left and Kel HM-2d on right

Post by Ostinato Rubato »

Simple rhythm groove. Low volume recording at home with IRT studio and ET65 1x12. The Kel is a condensor mic that responds a lot like a dynamic mic... making it super awesome. I like it not only for vocals but also for guitar. Ultimately the blend of sm57 and this Kel guy is also really cool I'm glad I have another guitar recording mic that I can use alongside my sm57.

Also, trying out this new box. Also that's what she said.

I agree completely. I like the Kel on it's own it's clearer and less midrangey. Has better headroom, seems to pick up the punchiness and gain without the harsh distortion, and has more clarity overall. But the character of the 57 blends really well with it. They're not all too far off from each other but contrast in nice ways. I'm pretty happy that I have another option now when recording guitar. :D

Sounds good together - need to get my headphones to try to figure which I like better. Am kinda anxious to see how that new mic works out for you.
