Quick Slate Digital test

Post by JerEvil »

Used the Kemper with some Cameron CCV profiles a dude sent me to "beta'. Guitar is the PRS SC245.

For the Slate Digital stuff I used:
• VCC
• Virtual Tape Machine

No real tweaking of the plug in's. Just added them on the Stereo Out track in Logic

I can definitely hear the difference with the Slate stuff. Going to really mess with it on the some old recordings to hear how much they can be improved overall.

So what do you find yourself using the most?

I hope you're not running the virtual channel into the red like in the pic? May not make a difference on just one track but if you do that on everything you'll have oversaturated mush.

What I find myself using the most are the Neve model and the Focusrite Red comp.

The grey 4 band EQ and the red compressor from the VMR.

Depending on what's in the piece I'll use the VBC on the master or the guitar bus.

But that was before getting that VTM and VCC. I have very little experience with them but they were great when I tried them. I still need FG-X and that new silver 4band eq and that ground lift dealie.

I like the Pultec emulator kit. Waves has the PuigTec for $49. I paid over 100 and it's still worth it.

I think Slate has similar plug, but use that after the channel pre and before the tape emulator. Really helps define guitar mixes. I toss those on a separate bus and mix as needed. Keeps things from getting too processed, especially when using digital amp modeling devices.
