Just got my iLok from Slate, here's my first mix

Post by exafro »

I bit the bullet and subscribed to the annual Slate plugin plan thingamabob, I'm really liking it so far. This is basically all Slate stuff, I need to work on the levels a bit, but it's pretty close to done. How does it sound?

Yessir. Sound damn fine.

I've been jumping on the freebie months since I already owned some slate plugins, and I doubt I'll be able to let it lapse when my freebie months are up. The VCC and VTM plugins alone are worth the subscription price. You look at the EQs and the bus compressors and you've basically got a full-fledged mixing console at your fingertips for a ridiculously low price.

You did a great job with this mix. The longer it goes on, the more pro it sounds to me. Not that it doesn't sound great to begin with, but my ears are all fubard this week from Machine Head's show at a little venue. Still, awesome mix man. Great job.

+1

Really great job. I'm glad I gave the song a longer listen cause these styles of vocals have a tendency to close my ears... but like NFA said it sounded more and more pro the longer I listened.

Thanks guys, the tracks themselves were very well recorded so that definitely contributes massively to how it sounds. Listening back now, I feel like the guitars need some more midrange/body, but I still think it sounds pretty dope. And NFA, you are 100% correct about the Slate stuff, the VCC and VTM are just awesome. Throw in the FG-x and VTM and its one hell of a bargain.

Awesome man. Did you do the $19.99 or $24.99?

Sounds good otherwise, but the vocals have really harsh pops and esses on them in the high end. 0:05 sounds like the vocal track is clipping because of this.
