I'll elaborate on the title a bit. The guitar in question is my first electric guitar my parents bought me, a Squier Strat. The one that really jump started my love for guitar Well I refinished it years ago put in a new pickup, then a few years later didn't like my DIY job I did . Well it has been sitting in a heap of parts for years ever since and I've finally decided to turn it into a true player. My plans for it are a refin, new bridge, new pickups/electronics and possibly new neck.
I think I've decided on a swirl job for the paint(been doing research on this, and will do some test runs). Gonna stay to its original setup and go 3 SCs 1 Vol 2 Tone.
But need some input on the pickups to put in them. Not sure where to start since I've been humbucker player for so long. So I come to GAB for guidance.
Recommend me 3 SC pickups. I want nice clean tone but can get a little nasty for some mid gain thickness as well. The neck though I want a smooth jazz/blues like tone. Think SRV-Little Wing.
Never been to particular when it comes to brand, though I'll say I'm more a Dimarzio fan then Duncan fan. But either brand will do or any other for that matter. But of course I do have to take the $$$ into consideration.

I have a Kinman Woodstock Plus set that I love. The tone between the middle and neck is instant SRV heaven and the bridge pickup works well with dirty tones. Best noiseless single coils I've experienced.

I have had only experience with hum cancelling single coils, and couldn't tell you in the least what a good true single coil is. If you aren't opposed to hum cancelling, then I would look at getting a set of Wilde pickups. There are a couple options, but I think for what you are looking for a L290SL/L280SM/L280SN would be right up your alley. These pickups are incredibly clear and have a nice chime to them, but if you push them can get some grit. The L290 brings the crunch if you really want it, but retains great clarity and sparkle if you want clean tones. They also offer their L45s which seem to get a lot of love. I have never tried them, but they sound good for sure. If you are a die hard true single coil person, they offer their Keystone line which sounds great [at least all the YouTube clips sound very nice].
I highly recommend the L290 and L280 pickups for you, highly!
Awesome thanks so far guys. Really digging the tone I hear from youtube on the Texas Specials. Might have already decided the neck pickup for me. Might run down to GC and see if they have an SRV strat on the wall to play through.
Lace Sensors haven't caught my attention just yet. What I heard was nice but not sure its the tone I'm looking for. We'll keep hearing them out though.
And have always been intrigued by Bill Lawrence pickups. Haven't looked at the vid but will definitely look into those as well. BG while I'm at it to.
thanks guys. Keep em coming
