Anyone owned/played a Peavey VTM 60?
Got a line on one in good condition for $250.
Sounds pretty huge in this video.

I currently play an 18-watt clone I built but I'm looking to get into the higher gain JCM-ish club.

I had one for a while. It's an awesome amp, highly recommended. For $250 it's a no-brainer.

Re: Anyone owned/played a Peavey VTM 60?
Thanks Billy.
The only thing I was worried about was if it smelled of smoke since it's an older amp (I'm highly allergic). Owner says it smells new it's so pristine.

If anything, have the caps replaced if the previous owner hasn't. That's about it, I miss mine terribly.

lol

First thing I'll probably do is recap it. Then build a new cabinet. Just about everyone says the cab is ugly and weighs a shit ton. I've built them before -- maybe I'll go with snakeskin tolex.

It's a cool amp. Very Marshall-y and it has these DIP switches that you can modify its tone/gain. The only real downside is it's ugly as all fuck.

I've got one, great amp. It's the in vogue amp in Hardcore it seems right now, black breath, nails, ages all use them.
My collection:
Mesa (Mark IV long and short head, Mark III red and blue stripe, Dual Rec 2 channel Rev G and Tremoverb)
Marshall (2203x, 2203KK, DSL50, JVM410)
Peavey (Butcher, VTM 120, Ultra 120, 6505)
Odd balls (Splawn Quickrod and EVH 5150III)

I love the fact that it's ugly!
You haul that in a gig and they're like "Peavey, gross!", "WTFLOL", but once you start playing, they're like "Dang, that ugly thing sounds nice!". No kidding, I was really told this.

Re: Anyone owned/played a Peavey VTM 60?
I've had one since 2004 and will never let it go. Sounds amazing with the dip switches off and a tube screamer type overdrive in front. Supposedly shares the same transformer as the 5150 combo and 60 watt Triumph.

Awesome amp, and they don't look too bad if you put 'em in a 5150 headshell.

Re: Anyone owned/played a Peavey VTM 60?
I had one. Bought it for $100 from some dude who stored it in a barn. It was dirty as hell, but it worked just fine and sounded quite good. The dipswitches on the front actually proved pretty useful in turning it into a cerftified metal beast.
I play in Under Eden. Our songs are about alien invasions, abductions and vigorous probing. The guitars are distorted in close approximation with the machine guns in Aliens and the vocals sound like a rabid polar bear with Tourette's ingesting broken glass. Totally adorable. Look us up.
Re: Anyone owned/played a Peavey VTM 60?
the comp dip switch actually engages the jose master volume type diode clipping. they are good amps. someone with a killer jose arrendondo amp took it to peavey and they duplicated most of the common used mods of the time.

You definitely have the metal cred opinion. Just listened to Dreaming Infinity's Fall. Fucking massive sounding.

Nice score! I have the 120 and love it. A 60 might be nice cause it's possible, POSSIBLE you can hit the sweetest spots without deafening yourself.

Awesome!
I was blasting Dopethrone in the truck at work today during the commercial breaks of my sports talk.
Of course, being EW, some of the songs sort of run longer than even the longest commercial break....

Re: Anyone owned/played a Peavey VTM 60?
Great amp. From what I've read it's Peavey's response to the JCM 800. I had a VTM 120 when I ran through a 1/2 stack years ago.

I'll be running it through an Avatar 2X12 that currently has two Eminence Legend GB1218s. I'll be receiving a new GWS Veteran 30 tomorrow to try it out with one of the Legends.
