cool 'bout time these things have an XLR , so question , since it's "good to up to 100 watts" Marshalls and many other amps go beyond that even though they are called "100" watters do you think the amp will be protected when cranked and running for a while or will they let out the magic smoke ?

Soldano touches on that in the vid - he said he built a good bit of a 'safety net' in to it so you could run full tilt all day. Said a 100 watt Marshall tops out wattage-wise around 4-5 on the knob then just saturates from there :idk:

It does seem like a really neat lil box. I wonder if you can daisy chain cabs off that speaker jack

I missed that , must go back and watch again ... what is the $ ? I could use it . I had a Palmer years ago and and sold it after I let go of that rig , That thing sounded darn good . I do have a Dr Z airbrake which is good for knocking off some dB's but I could use that one with a DI fo sho

Cool video. :)

He said it's only rated for 100 watts, so I wonder if a cranked 100 watt head might stress it's operating parameters. Soldano seemed to gloss over that when he was asked about it in the video, or just my perception of it lol.

That didn't really answer the question though or is it me  , regardless of what setting the volume is at can it handle the spike above 100 watts when the power section is pushed. He seemed to deflect that.

I kind of doubt anyone would design an attenuator that wouldn't handle pretty much and 100 or 120 watt 4xEL34 or 6L6 type amp. Those are the very amps people usually buy attenuators for.

How it did not answer the question? He says it's safe for 100w amps. He, out of everybody, knows that 100w amps can spike well above 100w. He still said it's safe for these amps.

I guess I was hoping he would have gone into more detal about it, dunno. The TK guy at one point eluded to the scenario of a spike above 100 watts and then the conversation shifted to the volume knob after 4 the power section just saturates it threw me off.

What would it do with a kt88 Marshall? Something that's got a bit extra in the wattage department?

pretty sure the man knows what he is doing so I'm not going to worry . I like to knock a few dB off some amps . It helps with my wreck clone as it stays clean 'till loud as fuck . I also like the option of going direct to the board live or for recording . Probably needs some cab sim but still seems like a nice tool to have in the box. Especially if the price is right . IME though extreme settings can sound like ass and I've had better luck using a good drive pedal and little amp with a 57 so we'll see . Dan are you getting one ?

Please keep us posted with the results, Arend.

Also, if you have the time, can you maybe do a comparison with the Rivera Rock Crusher?

One thing i noticed is the Jettenuator has resistors for a load unlike the Weber Mass which has a speaker motor.

If Mike Soldano puts his name on it thats prolly good enough for me. :thu:

BTW I ordered an attenuator last week. It has no line outs or speaker motor, but it does have some tone caps to put back some of the lost high freqs. Only $75. Can't wait to try it out!

I just picked up one of these new for $175:

That's the "home" version; they make a PA/'live" version with an XLR out. They also make a fancy, nearly $600 version:

The one I got works GREAT with my Plexi Reissue (50 watt, though), especially for silent, direct-to-board recording late at night. :thu:

Just sayin'. :)

To be honest I'm not a fan of attenuators, I think they're oversold and pretty specialist. When you combine them with good cab emulation, that's when it gets interesting.

Variable-sensitivity speakers like the Eminence Reignmaker (or Fluxtone if you have a million billion pounds to spare) seem like a much more sensible way to get those bulbs glowing without blowing too many eardrums.

What do you think of it so far? I would love to have something to let me direct record into my board, hows the emulation sound?
