OMG yeah how could I forget Jaco, just been gone so long.. Sad story...
Yeah, I actually didn't think of him initially. Not because he's not amazing. Just that I was trying to think of players who I'd like to jam with, I guess, and it's kind of an impossibility with Jaco, so he didn't come to mind.
His self-titled album is amazing. Just listened to it twice in a row cuz once wasn't enough.
Rex (have one of his basses) Jason Newsted (his new band/music is fkn stellar) Claypool (my idol until I had to play in a "band" lol) Jeremy Plato (from this TX/OK country band called Cross Canadian Ragweed, now playing as The Departed) Robert DeLeo (the white Jamerson, and a better songwriter to boot) edit: Mike Starr/Mike Inez (both AIC dudes rip, and are the main reason I love Spectors so much) .... are the main "famous" guys I rip from. I have people in pop/rock that I have been stealing from more here lately:
Jeremy Davis (Paramore-righteous tone and fun bass lines, gets to stare at Hayley Williams daily) Tobin Esperance (Papa Roach- dude has some fkn gnarly tone, especially live) Joe Loughler/Dean Bernardini (Chevelle-tone for days, awesome unison guitar-line playing)

they're still together, it's just "parted" together. Hayley, Jeremy and Taylor are the only original members (from their 2 good records). The brothers (Josh & Zac Farrow) who used to write the majority of their music bailed and it shows. That "Monster" single was pretty underwhelming and their new "Now" single isn't very good at all. I doubt they'll last past this upcoming record.
I saw a recent YT concert and they have a new drummer and 2 new guitar players that do extra electric, acoustic, keys, etc. stuff. It's almost too much going on for me, but oh well.
Jaco Pastorious: River People always pops into my head. Such a sick player.
Stanley Clarke: I'm a huge RTF fan, so he has to go down as one of my favorites.
Chuck Rainey: The Royal Scam and Aja have some of my favorite bass lines of all time.
Pops Popwell: Pretty underrated bassist; I don't think I've ever seen anyone mention him. I love The Crusaders and Larry Carlton and he was a big part of a lot of their classic songs.
Jack Bruce: Cream plus playing Apostrophe with Zappa? Yeah, one of my faves.
