Vinyl

Post by Dickarms »

alright you hipsters and you black metal snobs.

ol dickarms is entering the world of vinyl. VC got me a turntable and some records for christmas. stoked.

on the mojo side though, almost all of the LPs arrived warped slightly. enough to cause mega skipping. going to try the oven/glass trick to straighten them. anyone have luck with that? worked for my pickguard on the explorer.

If you do the glass method, do NOT go over 100F. You will have to do this many times and it still didn't do too much. Tried this once and went over 100F (like 150-200F) and it put pitts in the vinyl.

Maybe try this:

If it's an option - return them and hope they get it right the next time.

IIRC about 12-15 minutes. It's important not to go too fast and not too high of a temp.

I followed this.

It works if you don't go too high on the temp (my mistake as the 2nd time around I increased the temp to about 200F to go faster), but you may end up doing this more than once depending how bad the warp is.

yeah i was seeing as low as you can go (usually 200 iirc) and for only like 2-5 mins
the warps are bad enough to cause skipping, and be crazy noticeable when rotating, but not that visible just holding the record until you really look at it sideways.

Tip: Never buy Vinyls from Korea. ever.

I haven't had any trouble with skipping, but moreso the awkward tempo/pitch fluxuations, mainly in the Korean discs. Haven't really found a solution.
