... and get the Way Huge Green Rhino instead of the MXR Custom Badass Modified OD?

:idk:

Impossible to say. Both are good. Which one do you think looks coolest? Do you think the extra functions on the Green Rhino are something you'd use? I do like pedals where you can adjust the bass - handy at different amp settings etc.

Literally the only way you'll know will be to try them! Or at least listen to some demos. :sarge:

EDIT: Didn't realise the MXR lets you adjust bass too. Looks sexy. The green rhino seems to give you a boosted/ flat mids knob?

I haven't used the MXR so I really can't comment on it except to note the largely positive reviews that I have read. I do have the Green Rhino and I like it a lot - the Curve and 100Hz controls make it very flexible for matching with multiple rigs and general preferences. You probably won't go wrong with either but I'm happy to recommend the Green Rhino and I haven't been tempted to look for a replacement (such as the MXR).

Yeah, I meant to mention that the Green Rhino is, well, huge compared to the MXR and that may be a consideration for the OP.

There's also the difference in where the input and output jacks are on the pedals which can make a big difference on a pedalboard IMO...

Thanks, fellas! I thought it might come down to the physical differences -- size & jack placement -- moreso than tone/quality, but I didn't know if there were some factor I might be overlooking. Much appreesh!

I think I'd lean more towards the MXR, just because of it's smaller enclosure. (if they sound similar).

A agree with having a separate bass knob. That helps out alot, to me.

The MXR's size does seem to be its biggest advantage. That's one reason the Carbon Copy knocked my modded DMM off my board. Then again, the Rhino does have those cool, hipster cosmetics that a pretentious snot like me tends to appreciate (lol!!!)...

Welp, ordered the Green Rhino. The more I looked at them both, the looks of the Rhino just hypnotized me & suckered me in. :D Will either get her by Saturday or Tuesday, so I'll report back then. :sarge:

The Green Rhino looks cool for sure! I hope that it works out for you! I was going to say that I have had experience with the MXR and it was quite a good pedal, but my Dano Cool Cat OD v.1 sounded better with my amp. Actually they were very similar, but I enjoyed the overall tone of the Cool Cat more.

I am really thinking of getting a Boss Blues Driver and doing the H20 mod from Monte Allums on it. After hearing what his mods can do for the SD-1, I am intrigued to hear the results of the H20 mod on the BD-2.

Also, have you just tried a clean boost into your Marshall? I think it sounds amazing with my Marshall. My favorite clean boost is the MXR/CAE MC401. This pedal is amazing! I might have to get it and replace the Pro Tone Thruster that I have currently.

I generally have found through lots of A/Bing that I tend to prefer an od set as a clean boost over an actual clean boost, for the extra compression and tightening. It's hard to find a clean boost that doesn't make the low end woofy by equally boosting all frequencies (which, of course, is what a clean boost is supposed to do, right?) That said, my Banzai New Rising Sun II is awesome, and if I had to play a gig with no actual dirt pedals at all, I could certainly "get by" with just that one, lol! :)

I used to have the dual version of that pedal (forget thy actual letters/numbers) that had an od on one side and the clean boost, totally independent, on the other. Tbh, I never got on with that od, because it sounded way more fuzz-like that od. But the clean boost was simply stunning...;o
