What was the first electric guitar you bought yourself?

Post by Snowstorm »

Mine is an Epiphone Les Paul plus top. I still have it. I could never let it go. Just a nostalgia thing I guess. I thought I would sell it but just never have and I like keeping it. It's from 2001. Not a bad guitar. I broke it out the other day just for shits and giggles. I wanted to see what kind of shape it was in. I haven't broken it out for probably a few years. It's still in pretty good shape. It's fun to have it around. What was your first electric? Do you still have it?

Ibanez RX170. Look(ed) like dis. I still have it, but it's in pieces. I scalloped the fretboard at some point too. I kinda want to put it back together, and put some better pickups and components in it, but that's going to happen anytime soon.

PRS Santana SE w/ tremolo bridge. I bought it the first year they came out. Great guitar. The stock pickups were pretty good and it played like butter. I ended up selling it 9 months later to fund a Gibson Les Paul Gothic Studio.

My first electric was some cheap LP copy. I had that for a little bit, but then I got a beautiful wine-red Les Paul Custom.

I decided to pull a Pete Townsend and smash the cheap LP copy. I slammed it down as hard as I could and that damn thing would not break. I was like, WTF?

I got so pissed, that I made like Jimi and set that fucker on fire. :rawk:

My first guitar I bought myself was my first guitar. It was a POS Chinese copy of a Telecaster. A Raven.

Traded it in for a real Telecaster a year or so later. It was a used 68 Tele. (this was ca 1969). That Tele too, was a POS.

I finally got smart and bought a new 1970 Les Paul Deluxe at the end of working all summer and saving every cent.

my parents bought me my first guitar. A BC Rich  After that I paid for them in one way or another (working, birthday/holiday cash, etc). The Les Paul I got a few months back cost me basically all of the money I made working over the summer. Worth it.
Gotta have some SOUL.

My first electric guitar was some shitty strat copy from Sears or something. I bought it from one of my older brother's friends for $40. That thing wouldn't intonate or stay in tune worth a shit.

My second electric guitar, and what I consider my first REAL guitar, was a BC Rich NJ Series Bich. I loved that thing.

Parents gave me money in high school, and I bought a black Ibanez RG470. Man that floating trem was horrible. I remember I got into my first band in college, and the thing would be horribly out of tune after every song. Been a fixed bridge kind of guy ever since.

A Melody Maker copy by Avon. Made in Japan for Rose Morris UK.

Don't let the made in Japan fool you, it was total junk, wouldn't stay in tune for five minutes and the pickups were garbage. The only reason I bought it was because it was all I could afford and the symmetrical shape was easy to restring and use left handed.

I don't have it any more, it's been so long, 1980, I can't even remember what I did with it, it's probably in a landfill somewhere :-bd

My first electric guitar was a Squier Strat that I still have. Would never get rid of it ever. Same reasoning, sentimental, was a gift from my parents for my 16? bday.

The first electric I bought myself though was a Jackson DXMG

Image

Have considered selling it but still haven't done it yet. Doesn't hole as much sentimental value as the Squier does to me.

Some of those Fernandes Starts are badasses. I'd love to have a Fernandes 70's style Strat

I think Kirk Hamster used Fernandes Strats for a while

The first guitar I paid with my first paycheck was a Peavey Reactor (like Ovid9's). My younger sister wanted, and I kinda wanted my Ibanez GAX70 back too, so we traded.
