Does this Craigslist reply look like a scam to you?

Post by chrisjd »

I am selling a Mesa head. I received this from the responder after he asked what my lowest price was.... he notes paypal as method of payment, which why it doesn't necessarily seem like a scam, but his other wording does.

"Thanks for the response, Can you get back to me with some close up
pictures of this item.My Mover will be coming for the pick up once the
payment clears, Payment will be through PayPal which i believe is safe
and secure for both of us, I will take care of the PayPal charges in
the payment. Kindly get back to Me with your PayPal email id so that I
can send your payment ASAP.Get back to me with the following Answers:

Are you the first owner of it?
Why are you selling it?
When have you been using it?

Many Thanks."

Scam.

Any time someone references a "mover", a "friend", or other 3rd party who will pick up the package it's usually a scam. They may also send you a bunk check (or money order) for a few hundred more than you're selling the item for and allow you to keep some additional money for the inconvenience.

When I use PP, I'll only ship to their confirmed PP address, once their payment has been fully processed.

Good luck!

This ^^^^

Anytime you get a reply that doesn't specifically mention the item (not counting the subject line - that is filled in automatically) - it is a scam.
Just read the reply and see if it could equally apply to any item - that is usually the case.

Also - I have had one scam where the reply contained a portion of the subject line - making it appear that they were mentioning the item, but it was obviously a spambot cut-and-paste.

If it doesn't sound totally like a legitimate person replying - I delete it instantly. Even if these people aren't looking to scam you - some of the spambot replies are just looking for good e-mail addresses. Once you reply - they have your e-mail and know it is a confirmed good address. Collect enough of them, and they can sell them to another spammer.

Like Blackdevil said he never actually says 'amp, Mesa, the model, etc'. That bold part is very fishy in that regard.

I cringe just thinking about that vid. One of those things I wish I'd never saw.

I think i'd rather take an ass whoopin' than to watch that vid again.

Classic, generic Craigslist scam.

Soon as you see 'the item', you should run a mile.

Suprisingly, yes. They had a thing on the local news about that awhile back.
