Looking for a neutral sounding speaker
Since I think I'm going to keep my Vypyr for home practice, I'd like to replace the speaker. Currently I'm running the Vypyr into a Peavey Bandit extension cab, which has a Sheffield 1230 in it.
Should I get a neutral speaker for the rig or toss in a V30?
What speakers are out there with a neutral sound? I believe the Jet City Eminence speakers are that way, and maybe the EV12L?

Yeah, the JCA Eminence is about as colorless as it gets. Great way to get the sound of the amp through.

I came here t say this, now I don't have to. But honestly, neutral to me is another word for boring. Put a v30 in and get sme midrangey push going on. Become a king.

Re: Looking for a neutral sounding speaker
I would say the Classic Lead 80 as well. Not only is it a neutral speaker, it is also bad ass! I should also mention that this speaker was easy to record with.

Funny you say that . . . my rhythm guitarist has a Randall cab loaded with the Rocket 50s. Not too shabby when I plugged in my Vypyr, but I really don't want to buy his 4x12 just for home practice. Maybe I will because I know I can get it cheap . . .

I use a Jet City 2x12 that I put CL80s into. I wouldn't say the Eminences that were in there were anywhere near colourless.
CL80s aren't colourless either, but they don't have a ridiculous mid spike like V30s, or a more scooped sound like the 75s or anything like that. They come across as more neutral across the range, but of course in reality they're far from it. That said, I like the CL80s. Low end is solid, mids are solid without being absurd in any way, high end is there without being harsh and thin. A great speaker for being able to get a lot of sounds IMO, compared to something like a V30 where if I want to dial in a different sound I'm fighting against the mid spike it's trying to jam into my brain.
Or you could try something like the EVs, if you've got money to blow and don't give a shit about the fact that it weighs about twice as much as your average guitar speaker.

On the other hand, if you like the V30 sound and that's what you want, not much point dropping a different speaker in there and then going mad trying subconsciously to dial the amp in to make it sound like it has a V30 in it.
