Zeppelin releasing remastered first 3 albums in June

Post by Axe »

Hell yeah.

It's the first installment in what the band describes as an "extensive reissue program" of its nine studio albums that have been remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page. Moreover, each record will come out as a single-disc remastered album or as a "Deluxe Edition" with a bonus disc of previously unreleased studio and live tracks that the group recorded around the time of the album. The new versions of Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II and Led Zeppelin III will all hit stores on June 3rd.

Didn't they just remaster a bunch of their stuff a few years ago?

Yeah, for the Mothership release. It sounded great but some people felt the song selection was Zeppelin-light. The standards were there but no real depth from the catalog.

I'm looking forward to finally having the entire discography remastered.

I'm a firm believer stuff like this that was recorded on analog gear back in a time that the engineers, producer's an even the band had to be creative in how they recorded, because of the limited tracks, etc. This is why there is magic in older stuff. Re-mastering is never a good thing to me, because i really do think recordings that were real and not over produced or edited capture the essence of the band. The energy in the room and all the mojo is there on the original recordings. This will defeat that because that energy and power is long gone. It'll be remastered in an entirely different feel and environment..

I may sound crazy or like i dropped way too much acid in my life, and the latter may be true, but when the remastered shit doesn't get your blood flowin or head nodding, you'll know why.
Music is so much more than the notes and sound coming from your speakers. Its everything that was happening in their lives captured on tape. I think if you want to preserve the integrity ,then you don't fuck with it. .

Lol, i know you just want to hear a clearer sound, And they will do that, but i always look beyond the sound coming from the speakers. It either paints a picture or doesn't for me. Some of my favourite albums , production wise, sound like shit. But the vibe is off the charts..

I get what you're saying, but if there's anyone I trust to make it sound good and still capture the original feel it's Page.

I'd prefer to hear it as brand new vinyl on a valve powered Hi-Fi.

That shit would crush.

I hated the release of the Mothers of Invention vinyl albums on CD.
They didn't just rerelease/remaster the original sterio tapes on CD - they did a complete remix from the original multitrack tapes to CD.
God what a catastrophe! Kazoos were missing, bass tracks were too loud, they used different reverbs, etc, etc, etc.
Zappa blew off all the complaints by saying that the remixes were to be considered new pieces of art. :crap:
